Advanced Yield Trial of Garlic Line

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The study was conducted at the farm of Spices Research Centre, BARI, Shibgonj, Bogura during rabi Season 2019-2020 to select the promising garlic germplasm for releasing a variety. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. Six different garlic lines (GC0038, GC0044, GC0035, GC0027, GC0031and GC0013) including BARI Rashus-3 as check were evaluated based on their yield and other desirable characters. Among the lines, the highest yield (12.580 t/ha) was obtained from GC0044and the lowest (9.0 t/ha) was found from GC0031. Disease severity was also lower in GC0044.The significant variation was found in plant height, number of leaves/plant, bulb length, bulb width, clove length, clove width, yield /plant and yield t/ha. Considering all the characters, the lines GC0035, GC0038, and GC0044 were found promising and selected for next year trial.

Objectives:

Methodology:

The evaluation study was conducted at Spices Research Centre, Bogura during rabi season 2019-2020 to select the promising garlic line for releasing a variety. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. Six different garlic lines (GC0038, (GC0044, GC0027, GC0035, GC0031and GC0013)) were evaluated along with BARI Rashun -3 as check. Planting was done on 1^st November 2019, maintaining 15 cm x 10 cm spacing. The unit plot size was 3.0 m x 1.2 m. In addition to 5 t/ha of cow dung, the crop was fertilized with N₁₀₀ P₅₄ K₁₆₆S₂₀kg/ha. The entire quantity of cow dung, P, K, S and ½ of N was applied during land preparation. The rest of N was applied in two equal splits at 25 and 50 DAP. To control tip burn disease, the crop was sprayed with Rovral 50WP@2g/L of water three times at 35, 45 and 55 DAP. Three irrigation were done at 10-20 days interval during vegetative growth stage. Irrigation was stopped before 30 days of crop maturity. The crop was harvested on 25 March 2020. Data on different morphological and yield contributing characters were collected and analyzed using MSTATC program and mean values were separated by DMRT.

Achievement/Findings:

Considering all the characters, the lines GC0044, GC0038 and GC0035 were found promising. This is the second year study. So further evaluation will be needed for confirmation of the result.
