Development and Release of BRRI Dhan94 for T. Aman Season

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This study was conducted at BRRI Gazipur in T. Aman season. The aim of this study was to develop and release of acceptable grain quality and high yield potential rice variety for T. Aman season. National Seed Board of Bangladesh has approved the recommendation of technical committee to release the proposed line BR-RS(Raj)-PL4-B as BRRI dhan94 for T. Aman season in 2019 for the complementary variety of Swarna and supplementary variety to BRRI dhan49. Plant height of the variety is 118 cm with 134 days growth duration. Average yield is about 5.90 t/ha and grain size is medium bold. Reddish colored grain and high yielding rice variety BRRI dhan94 can be take place whether Indian Swarna is cultivated. Although the average yield potentiality is 5.90 t/ha, it can give up to 7.40 t/ha yield in case of favorable environment and appropriate agronomic management.

Objectives:

To develop modern rice varieties superior to standard varieties and adaptable to rainfed lowland environment in T. Aman season

Methodology:

This study was conducted at BRRI Gazipur in T. Aman season. This variety was developed through pure line selection from Ranjit Swarna. It’s pedigree number is BR-RS(Raj)-PL4-B. After selection of the genotype, several experiments i. e. Observational Yield Trial (OYT), Preliminary Yield Trial (PYT), Secondary Yield Trial (SYT) and Regional Yield Trials (SYT) were conducted under on-farm and on-stations. Advanced Line Adaptive Research Trial (ALART) was conducted to evaluate of promising breeding lines for their adaptability in different agro-ecological conditions for releasing as variety (s). Finally the Proposed Variety Trial (PVT) was done for On-farm evaluation of proposed line by the NSB team for the recommendation of release as a new variety. The field evaluation team of the National Seed Board (NSB) compared the performance of this genotype with that of BRRI dhan49. The NSB has approved to release the proposed line BR-RS(Raj)-PL4-B as variety.
