The experiment was conducted at Spices Research Centre, BARI, Shibganj, Bogura, Bangladesh during 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 to find out the best storing method which minimize the storage loss of dry chilli. The local variety of chilli was used in this trial. Thirteen storage containers were used as treatment. It was found that double polythene lining resulted the lowest final moisture content 9.01 and 8.20%, highest germination 97.50 and 98.39%, and attractive shining colour and excellent storage conditions in 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 storage year, respectively. Comparatively Gunny bag, doley and earthen pot showed worst performance. Final moisture (%) was negatively correlated with germination (%) in both the years. The experiment results also revealed that the storage with double polythene lining or tin container with inside polythene may be used for storing dry chilli.

To find out the best storing method which minimize the storage loss of dry chilli.

The experiment was conducted at Spices Research Centre, Bogura within two successive years during March to September of 1999-2000 and 2000-2001. The local variety of chilli coated with C0522 was used in this trial. The chilies were well sun-dried and stored in different container under ambient condition (25-30OC, RH 75-95%) in the laboratory room. In all thirteen containers were used as storage treatment. The treatments were tin container, tin container with inside polythene lining, tin container with outside polythene lining, gunny bag, gunny bag with inside polythene lining, gunny bag with outside polythene lining, doley, dolely with inside polythene lining, dolely with outside polythene lining, earthen pot, earthen pot with inside polythene lining, earthen pot with outside polythene lining and double polythene lining. Doley was made of chatai and covered with oil cake paste. Chillies were stored there with bamboo dry leaf at top and bottom. The opening of earthen pot was closed by earthen lid with mud paste. LDP-10 mm polythene was used as lining and bags in this study. The experiment was laid out in CRD with three replications. The moisture content of chilli at the time of storage was about 8%. Different containers were opened after six months of stored. Data were recorded on final moisture percentage, germination, colour and condition of stored chilli. Data were analyzed statistically and means were separated by DMRT to find differences among the treatments.
