This study counts the number of the agricultural research conducted in geographic area of Bangladesh during the year 1976 to 2018, indexed in BanglaJOL. It attempts to examine the research performance of all agriculture research publications by Bangladeshi scientists. The BanglaJOL was used to collect the data to find the publication produced in the geographic area of Bangladesh. Different types of journals were examined and 4119 agriculture research papers were found. The research result was made on several parameters: publication outputs, subject categories and major journals, author productivity, geographic and institutional distribution of publications, and keyword-density analysis. From the result, the publications get relative growth rate, ranking of agriculture research journals, doubling time, leading institution, most prolific Bangladeshi institutions such as author productivity, authorship collaboration, degree of collaboration, collaboration index and collaborative coefficient, major collaborating partner countries and keyword density analysis for highly researched keywords.

The main objective of this study is to analyze the contribution of Bangladesh in the agriculture research during the 1976- 2018. The specific objectives of this study are: • To study the research output and relative growth rate of agricultural science in Bangladesh • To identify major collaborating partner countries • To study the research communication in highly productive journals • To examine the distribution of output in different subdomain of agricultural science • To study the contribution and citation impact of most productive institutions involving in research • To identify the most popular keywords

Data were collected from Bangladesh Journal Online (BanglaJOL, https://www. banglajol. info/) for the period 1976-2018. BanglaJOL is a database providing access to journals published in Bangladesh covering the wide range of academic disciplines. BanglaJOL covers about 143 journals with 1750 tables of contents listing 22,509 articles till date since its inception in September 2007. The choice of BanglaJOL for data collection was-it provides substantive list and abstracts and full-text of articles published in local Bangladeshi journals across all disciplines, it has tradition and comprehensiveness for being nationally and internationally acceptance for macro analyses of scientific output. We considered also the fact that it includes the names of all authors of published works, and information on the institutions and country of origin of the authors as well, thus allowing analyses of collaboration patterns. The search string used was: (Agricultural Economics & Policy OR Agricultural Engineering OR Agriculture, Dairy & Animal Science OR Agriculture, Multidisciplinary OR Agronomy OR Fisheries OR Food Science & Technology OR Forestry OR Horticulture OR Plant Sciences OR Soil Science OR Veterinary Sciences OR Zoology). The data were collected from 1976 to 2018 and total 4,119 papers were found. A scientometric analysis was conducted to reveal the trends in agricultural science research of Bangladesh for achieving the research objectives. Relative Growth Rate (RGR) Relative Growth Rate (RGR) is the rate of increase in the number or size of the research publications per unit of time. It is also called the exponential growth rate or the continuous growth rate. Garg and Padhi (1999) developed the formula of relative growth rate and the doubling time to measure the publications. The RGR is obtained with the following formula used by many authors. The formula is:R(a) = (W2-W1)/(T2-T1). R(a) = Relative Growth Rate over the specific period of interval W1 = log w1 (Natural log of initial number of publications) W2 = log w2 (Natural log of final number of publications) T2-T1 = Unit difference between the initial and final time R(a) = Per unit of publications per unit of time (yr). Doubling time (DT) If the number of papers or pages of a discipline doubles during a particular period, the change between the logarithms of numbers at the starting and end must be logarithm of the number 2. If natural logarithm is used this variance has a value of 0. 693. Thus the equivalent doubling time for each specific period of interval and for both papers and pages can be calculated by the following formula: Doubling time (DT) =0.693/RGR

The present work studied the growth of agriculture output, its distribution in different domains, communication pattern of Bangladesh agriculture scientists, citation pattern of the research output, highly productive institutions, activity profile and the impact of their research output solely published in the geographic area of Bangladesh based on banglaJOL during 1976-2018 using the scientometric technique. Some well-established scientometric parameter values, such as RGR, DT, ACPP, H-index, DC, CC, CI etc. were also examined in this study. A total of 4119 publications were published in Agriculture during 1976-2018. The highest number of publications 298 was published in 2018. The highest average citations per publication 2. 76 were in Chittagong Vet AnimSci Univ. There were 694 publications with no citations during the period under study. A steady growth of agricultural research in Bangladesh was observed where the highest number of publications was in 2016 and the declining period was in the year 1977. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Journal holds the first position, followed by Bangladesh Agronomy Journal, Bangladesh Journal of Animal Science, International Journal of Agricultural Research, Innovation and Technology and Bangladesh Journal of Agricultural Research among the top 20 highly productive journals of Bangladesh. Among the top 19 institutions contributing towards publication in agriculture 12 are universities and only seven are R&D organizations. The average citation per paper of these top 19Bangladeshi institutions ranges from 0. 75 to 2. 76, with the average value of h-index 4. 15. To identify the major country-level collaboration pattern of research output in agriculture of Bangladesh, it is observed that Japan is the most collaborated partner country followed by India, Netherland, UK, Korea, Pakistan, Finland, Belgium, Ireland, USA, Australia, Germany and others. To investigate the author collaboration- CI, CC, DC were employed to prove that the 65% of the research outputs are of collaborative in nature. It is evident that collaborative research is predominance in agricultural research domain in Bangladesh. Metadata, Open Source Software, Protocol, Preservation, Standard have a high density representing these keywords have a strong association with other keywords. And it is reasonable to assume that the higher the density, the more mature and well-developed study on the theme. It depicts that the core research fields are fewer, and many of these research fields tend to be juvenile and emerging. Conclude that agricultural science research is in poor conditions in Bangladesh, both in terms of output as well as in quality. Therefore, special focus is required in agriculture research as well as R&D sector from the government and policymaker to the mass proliferation of research in this field.
