Application of Growth Regulator for Synchronizing Ripening of Mungbean

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A field experiment was conducted at the research field of Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi and PRSS, BARI, Gazipur during 2018-19 to find out the suitable growth regulator to synchronize ripening of mugbean. There were six treatments viz T₁= Glycel (Glyphosate, 3.70 L/ha), T₂=Gramoxone (Paraquat, 2.25L/ha), T₃=Jaskot (Paraquat 20% and Glyphosate 41%), T₄= Bonmara (2, 4-D Amine, 2.80 L/ha), T₅= Ripen-15 (Ethephon, 1L/ha), T₆=Control. Treatments did not show significant effect on the yield contributing characters of mugbean. The highest gross return was obtained from Ripen-15 (Tk. 30420 ha^-1) at Ishurdi and Gramoxon (Tk.28020 ha^-1) at Gazipur, but the highest MBCR (3.48 and 4.14 at Ishurdi and Gazipur, respectively) were got from Gramoxon. It was suitable growth regulator to synchronize ripening of mungbean because crop was harvested at a time easily by hand within six days.

Objectives:

To find out the most effective growth regulator to enhance mugbean ripening at a time.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the research field of Pulses Research Centre, Regional Agriculture Research Station, Ishurdi, and PRSS, BARI, Gazipur during 2018-19 to find out the suitable growth regulator to synchronize ripening of mugbean. The trial consisted of six chemical treatments such as T₁= Glycel (Glyphosate, 3.70 L/ha), T₂=Gramoxone (Paraquat, 2.25L/ha), T₃= JasKot (Paraquat 20% and Glyphosate 41%), T₄= Bonmara (2, 4-D Amine, 2.80 L/ha), T₅= Ripen-15 (Ethephon, 1 L/ha) T₆=Control. The experiment was designed randomized complete block with three replications. The mungbean crop was sown on 03 April 2019 at Ishurdi and 19 March at Gazipur. The unit plot size was 20 m² (4 m x 5m). The fertilizers were applied @20-20-20 kg NPK /ha. BARI Mung-6 was sown with a line spacing of 30 cm@ 25 kg/ha. One hand weeding was done at 25 Days after sowing (DAS) for controlling weed. Emitaf (@ 2ml L^-1 was used one time for controlling insect. Growth regulators were applied at 65 Days after sowing (03 June 2019). The crop was harvested on 9 June 2019 at Ishurdi and 30 May 2019. Data on yield contributing characters were recorded from 10 randomly selected plants from each plot and the grain yield was recorded from the central area of four square meters of the plot and converted to t ha^-1. For germination test twenty five seeds of each sample were placed in Petri dish containing wet sand. The petridish were placed in room temperature for 3 days for germination. Seedlings were counted third day. Germination percentage was calculated using the following formula (Krishnasamy and Seshu, 1990). Germination (%) = Number of seeds germinated/Number of seeds tested x 100. R-software package was used for all statistical analyses. The mean differences between treatments were separated by the least significant difference (LSD) at P≤ 0.05 for the measured variables.

Achievement/Findings:

Considering less time for harvesting after chemical application and MBCR it can be concluded that Gramoxon was suitable growth regulator to synchronize ripening of mungbean because crop was harvested at a time easily by hand within six days requiring less labour at harvesting avoiding labour cost for picking up of ripen pods.
