Evaluation of Grasspea Germplasm at Madaripur Region

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at Regional Pulses Research Station (RPRS), Madaripur during Rabi 2016-17 to find out the suitable and high yielding genotypes/variety of grasspea. Ten genotypes/lines and one check BARI Kheshari-3 were evaluated in the trial. Results showed that all the characters under study were significantly different among the genotypes. The result revealed that BARI Kheshari-3 gave the highest yield (1341 kg/ha) followed by BGP 130010 (1317 kg/ha) and the lowest yield (910 kg/ha) was obtain from BGP 13009.

Objectives:

To screen out the high yielding germplasm which was suited in this region.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at RPRS, Madaripur during Rabi season of 2016-17 to find out the suitable and adaptive germplasm of grasspea. Ten grasspea germplasm and one check BARI Kheshari-3 were evaluated under this trial. Ten germplasm were BGP 13001, BGP 13002, BGP 13003, BGP 13004, BGP 13005, BGP 13006, BGP 13007, BGP 13008, BGP 13009 and BGP 130010. In 2013-14 there was an experiment at RPRS, Madaripur consisting of 250 grasspea lines. The lines were collected from ICARDA, Syria. In that year, most of the germplasms yielded very low. Some lines have variations in flower colour, branching habit, seed colour etc. In this year, ten selected lines from that trial were sown with a view for identifying high yielding one. The experiment was laid-out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The unit plot size was 4m × 4m and spacing was 40 cm × 05 cm. Seeds were sown in the rows carefully by hands at 3 cm depth and covered by soils on 22 Novemver 2016. All recommended fertilizers were applied as basal dose during final land preparation. Volium Flexi 300SC was sprayed for control of thrips. The crop was harvested after maturity. Data on yield contributing characters were recorded from 10 randomly selected plants from each plot. Grain yield (kg/ha) were recorded from the whole plot. Data were analyzed statistically by using MSTAT-C program.

Achievement/Findings:

All the genotypes under study provided considerable yield and other agronomic characters. So, the experiment needed to be continued next year to explore the potentiality of the germplasm.
