Evaluation of High Yielding Advanced Lines of Mungbean Resistant to Mymv and Cls

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Four selected advanced lines with a check BARI Mung-1 were evaluated in the trial. The lines were VC-6173, VC-3960A-88, GK-22, SM2-134. Results revealed that the line VC-6173 and SM2-134 showed lowest MYMV score (2.33) where BARI Mung-1 gave the highest YMV score (4.33). Almost all the germplasm showed resistant CLS score. The line SM2-134 gave the highest (1525 kg/ha) yield followed by (1469 kg/ha) the line GK-22 and the lowest yield (830 kg/ha) found in the line BARI Mung-1.

Objectives:

The experiment was conducted at RPRS, Madaripur to find out high yielding and disease resistance advanced lines of Mungbean

Methodology:

Four genotypes/lines viz. VC-6173, VC-3960A-88, GK-22, SM2-134 and check BARI Mung-1 were evaluated in the trial. The entries were received from ACIAR, Australia. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. Plot size was 3 m X4 m. The spacing was 40 cm X 05 cm. Seeds were sown on 3 March, 2016. Two weeding were done to keep the crop weed free up-to first picking. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded from 10 randomly selected plants from each plot and seed yield (kg/ha) were recorded from whole plot and analyzed statistically through MSTAT-C.

Achievement/Findings:

Days to flower varied from 35-37. Days to maturity varied from 54-59. The highest days to maturity (59) observed in BARI Mung-1and VC3980A-88 and the lowest (54) in VC-6173. The highest plant height (57.40 cm) was recorded in VC3980A-88 and the lowest (48.87 cm) in BARI Mung-1. The maximum number of pods/plant (33.11) was produced by SM2-134 and minimum by BARI Mung-1 (26.00). The highest (9.14 cm) pod length found in GK-22 and lowest (8.28 cm) in BARI Mung-1. The highest (10.93) number of seeds/pod was found in VC-6173 and lowest (9.20) in the line VC-3980-88. The highest 100 seed weight (5.10 g) observed in VC-3980A-88 and lowest (4.77 g) in BARI Mung-1. The best (2.33) MYMV score obtained in the line VC-6173 and SM2-134 and poorest (4.33) in the line BARI Mung-1. Almost all the lines showed better CLS reaction. Among the entries SM2-134 gave the highest seed yield (1525 kg/ha) followed by GK-22 (1469 kg/ha) and the lowest (830 kg/ha) yield was recorded in BARI Mung-1. Among the four advanced lines VC-6173, GK-22 and SM2 have shown better performance considering yellow mosaic virus (2.33, 2.66 and 2.33 respectively out of 0-8 scale) and SM2-134 and GK-22 produced better yield (1525, 1469 kg/ha respectively). So, the experiment could be tested regionally to know the adaptability of the lines.
