International Grasspea Yield Trial-early (icarda)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Twenty five Grasspea lines including one local check were evaluated at Pulses Research Sub-Center, BARI, Gazipur during rabi 2015-16. The local check BARI Kheseri-2 were earlier than the exotic entries considering days to 50% flowering and 95% maturity. IFLA2924, IFLA1522 and IFLA2475 and IFLA2765 was the earliest among the exotic lines. No exotic lines could exceed the local check in case of yield. The imported lines IFLA2998, IFLA2282, IFLA2924, IFLA2158, IFLA2968, IFLA2974, IFLA159, IFLA2765, IFLA220, IFLA2460, IFLA2736, IFLA1720, IFLA2395 and the local collection were the high yielding entries.

Objectives:

To determine variable genotypes the morphological characterization of Germplasms collected from different sources for qualitative and quantitative traits.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted during Rabi season of 2015-16 at Pulses Research Sub-Centre, BARI, Gazipur. A total of 24 germplasm from exotic and 1 local sources were evaluated. The experiment was laid out in Alpha-lattice design with 2 replications. Each plot consisted of two rows of 4 m long with row to row spacing of 50 cm and plant to plant of about 10 cm. Fertilizers were used as per recommendation as basal during final land preparation. Data was recorded on one qualitative character like flower color and quantitative traits were collected from five plants randomly sampled where the traits comprised of days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height, branches/plant, pods per plant, seeds per pods, pod length, pod width, 100 seed weight and grain yield per m². But in this experiment for analysis and discussion, only the data of 100 seed weight and yield per ha was used. The statistical analysis was done using GENSTAT-5.5 computer software.

Achievement/Findings:

A total of twenty five entries were evaluated. IFLA2998, IFLA2282, IFLA2924, IFLA2158, IFLA2968, IFLA2974, IFLA159, IFLA2765, IFLA220, IFLA2460, IFLA2736, IFLA1720, IFLA2395 and IFLA1522, IFLA2475 and IFLA2765 were selected for yield and earliness. It requires further study with optimum sowing time before drawing final conclusion about crop duration as well as yield.
