The experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Plant Pathology Division, RARS, Jessore during Rabi 2016-17 to find out optimum planting time and actual spray schedule with fungicide for controlling Stemphylium blight of lentil in a split plot design. There were four main treatments such as sowing date 25th October, 5th November, 15th November and 25th November, 2016 and four subplot treatments such as spraying at 40 DAS (Days After Sowing), 50 DAS, 60 DAS and 70 DAS. Among the treatments MP2, where planting date was 05 November 2016, and SP3, where the spray schedule started at 60DAS showed better performance for reducing disease severity and increasing yield. The highest yield (1610 kg/ha) was found in MP2 x SP3 which was statistically similar to MP2 x SP2 (1580 kg/ha) and the lowest (728 kg/ha) in MP4 x SP4 followed by MP4 x SP3.

This experiment was conducted to find out optimum planting time and actual time of spray started for controlling Stemphylium blight of lentil in field.

This experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Jessore during rabi 2016-17. The experiment was laid out in a Split plot design with four main plots and four subplots in each main plot. Unit plot size was 6.5m x 4.5m and 3m x 2m for main and sub plot, respectively. The plot to plot and block to block distance was 1m and 1.5m, respectively. Four planting time were applied as main plot treatment such as MP1=25th October, MP2=5th November, MP3=15th November and MP4=25th November, 2016. On the other hand, four spray schedule were placed as subplot treatment in each main plot, as SP1=40 DAS, SP2=50 DAS, SP3=60 DAS and SP4=70 DAS. BARI Masur-1 was used as susceptible variety. The spraying material was the fungicide Rovral 50WP @ 2g/L of water. Fertilizer and other intercultural operations were applied as per recommendation by PRC, BARI. Stemphylium blight was rated on a 0-5 scoring scale (Bakr and Ahmed, 1992, Bakr et al., 2000) where,  0 = no infection (HR), 1= few scattered leaf infection but no twig blighted (MR), 2 = 5-10% leaf infected and or few scattered twig blighted (MR), 3 = 11-20% leaflet infected and /or 1-5% twigs blighted (MS), 4 = 21-50% leaflet infected and /or 6-10% twigs blighted (S) and 5= above 51% leaflet infected and /or more than 10% twigs blighted (HS). Data on disease severity and yield contributing characters such as plant height, number of plants per m2, number of pods per plant and finally yield were taken.

The interaction effects of planting time and spray schedule on disease development are presented in Table 3.6. The lowest stemphylium score was 2.00, observed in MP2 x SP3 (sowing date at 5th November 2016) which were statistically similar with those of MP1 x SP3, MP2 x SP2 and Mp3 x SP2. The highest score (4.67) was recorded from MP4 x SP4 plots where planting date was 25th November, 2016 followed by MP4 x SP2 and MP4 x SP3. The maximum plant height (37.53 cm) was found in MP1 x SP3 followed by MP1 x SP1, MP1 x SP2 and MP1 x SP4 and the minimum (26.47 cm) in MP4 x SP4. The highest plant/m2 (217) was found in MP3 x SP2 and the lowest (167) in MP4 x SP1 followed by MP4 x SP4. The highest pod/plant (91.67) was obtained in MP2 xSP3 followed by MP1 x SP2, MP1 x SP1 and MP3 xSP2 respectively. on the other hand the lowest pod/plant (51.00) was obtained in MP4 x SP3 followed by MP4 x SP1.The highest 1000 seed weight was found from MP2 x SP3 plot (17.33g) which was statistically similar with MP1 X SP3 and MP2 x SP2, respectively. On the other hand it was lowest (14.13g) in MP4 X SP4 treated plot followed by MP4 x SP1. In case of yield, the highest yield (1610 kg/ha) was found in MP2 x SP3 which was statistically similar to MP2 x SP2 (1580 kg/ha) and the lowest (728 kg/ha) was in MP4 x SP4 followed by MP4 x SP3. From the above study it may be concluded that MP2 X SP3 (sowing date 5th November X spray started at 60 DAS) followed by MP2 x SP2 (sowing date 5th November X spray started at 50 DAS) has significant effect in increasing yield of lentil with controlling stemphylium  blight disease in field condition.
