Studies on the Human Health Benefit of Fish Peptides Produced from Low Valued Marine Fish Species of Bangladesh

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Bioactive peptides isolated from various fish protein hydrolysates have shown numerous bioactivities such as antihypertensive, antithrombotic, immunomodulatory and antioxidative activities. A fish peptide from low-cost marine fish was produced and the functional properties of peptides were tested among the people for one or more problems. Among the users, most of them were elderly people above 60 years of age. They were also suffering from some sorts of pain somewhere in different parts of the body and feeling weakness. All the users reported that after taking peptides even within a week's time, body pains started to reduce, whereas, in 90 days of taking peptides, body pains reduced considerably. They all were feeling very good and they also getting strength in walking and doing works.

Objectives:

Test of the peptides products against the people who do excise including athletes to evaluate the effects on increasing health fitness
To test the elderly people who are told by doctor to intake protein to regain from weakness and tiredness
To test the people who are struggling with hypertension according to advice by the physician.

Methodology:

The study will be conducted under the direct supervision of a doctor. 20 potentially economically sound people suffering from hypertension but still not yet taking any medicine for hypertension will be selected for the study whom doctor advice them for taking fish peptide regularly. 10 tablets will be prescribed for each person daily. One supervisor will be appointed to monitor persons taking fish peptides regularly. Their blood pressure will be checked every seven days interval. It will be taken care of not drop out of any people during the study period and they are taking peptide tables regularly. The study will be conducted for three months. Before taking the Fish Peptides, the participants will be tested in pathological labs for their Protein level with CK test. Tests will be conducted two times. The first test will be done immediately before taking the tablets and the final test will be done after finishing the course.

Achievement/Findings:

A total of seven people who were suffering from high blood pressure took 9 peptide tablets daily. All the blood pressure patients were taking medicine for reducing blood pressure before taking peptides. Initial blood pressure range among the respondents was in the range of 152/90mm/Hg to 178/108mm/Hg. After taking peptides, their blood pressure started to decline within 2 weeks. After 90 days of taking peptides, blood pressure of the most of the patients were reduced to normal range of 120/80mm/Hg. Ten people participated in testing peptides for one or more problems. Among them, some people were also suffering from diabetics (blood sugar) for a long time and most of them were taking medicine for reducing diabetics. After taking insulin and medicine, diabetics were also not controlled among some patients. Blood sugar levels in all other patients were also reduced considerably in 90 days after taking peptides.
