Participatory Variety Selection of Blackgram, Season: 2018-2019

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at Ishurdi, Barind, Jamalpur, Gazipur and Madaripur during Kharif-II season of 2018. Three Blackgram genotypes viz; BBLX-08010-4-1, BBLX-08008-2-1 and BBLX-08010-2-1 with one check (BARI Mash-3) were evaluated. The highest plant height was found in BARI Mash-3 (50.2 cm) and the lowest in BBLX-08010-2-1 (46.9cm) followed by BBLX-08008-2-1. The genotype BBLX-08008-2-1 gave the highest (4.54 g) 100 seed weight followed by BARI Mash 3 and the lowest 100 seed weight was found in BBLX-08010-2-1 (4.24 g). The highest yield was found in BBLX-08008-2-1 (1458 kg/ha) followed by BBLX-08010-2-1 and the lowest yield was found in BBLX-08010-4-1(1264 kg/ha). From this trial genotypes BBLX-08008-2-1 and BBLX-08010-2-1 were selected for further evaluation.

Objectives:

To investigate the performance of Blackgram genotypes.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Ishurdi, Barind, Jamalpur, Gazipur and Madaripur during Kharif-II season of 2018. Three Blackgram genotypes vizBBLX-08010-4-1, BBLX-08008-2-1 and BBLX-08010-2-1 with one check (BARI Mash-3) were evaluated. The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with 3 replications. Fertilizers were used in broadcast methods during final land preparation @ 40 kg urea, 75 kg TSP and 45 kg MOP/ha. Unit plot size was 2.4 m x 4.0 m with a spacing of 40 cm. Seeds were sown on 01 to 03 September 2018 at different location. Weeding, irrigation, and other intercultural operations were done as when necessary. Mungbean Yellow Mosaic Virus (MYMV) disease on a 1-9 scale such as 1= small yellow specks (less than 5% leaf area covered), 3= yellow mottling of leaves (5.1-10% leaf area covered), 5= yellow mottling and discolouration (10.1-50% leaf area covered), 7= pronounced yellow mottling and discolouration of leaves, pods with stunting in plants (50.1-75% leaf area covered), and 9= severe yellow entire leaves and stunting (more than 75.1% leaf area covered) was developed by Singh et al. (1995). Data of different parameters were recorded from 10 plants of each unit plot. Yield was calculated from the whole plot and analyzed statistically by R software.

Achievement/Findings:

Considering location the highest mean yield was found in BBLX-08008-2-1 (1458 kg/ha) followed by BBLX-08010-2-1 (1401 kg/ha). From this trial these genotypes BBLX-08008-2-1 and BBLX-08010-2-1 were selected for further evaluation.
