Screening of Mungbean Lines Resistant to Mymv and Cls. Season: 2016-2017

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at Regional Pulses Research Station (RPRS), Madaripur, PRC, Ishurdi and RARS, Jessore during Kharif-1, 2017 to evaluate the performance of mungbean genotypes for searching of high yielding and resistant source of Yellow Mosaic Virus (YMV) and Cercospora Leaf Spot (CLS) of mungbean. Forty one mungbean lines with a check BARI Mung-6 were evaluated in the trial. Results revealed that BMMP-201506 and BMMP-201508 gave the lowest MYMV score (2.17) where the line BD-6914 gave the highest (5.50) score. Lowest (3.78) CLS score found in the line BMMP-201506 and highest (5.11) in BD-6912. The highest yield (1633 kg/ha) obtained in BD-6941 and lowest (925 kg/ha) in BD-6915.

Objectives:

To find out suitable mungbean lines which are more tolerant to MYMV having the high yielding capacity and to use resistant host is most important to find out useful way of management of this disease.

Methodology:

The field trial was conducted at Regional Pulse Research Station (RPRS), BARI, Madaripur PRC, Ishurdi, RARS, Jessore during Kharif-1, 2017 under irrigated condition. Forty one genotypes/lines viz. BD-6908, BD-6910, BD-6911, BD-6912, BD-6913, BD-6914, BD-6915, BD-6918, BD-6920, BD-6922, BD-6923, BD-6924, BD-6925, BD-6926, BD-6927, BD-6928, BD-6936, BD-6941, BD-6943, BD-8887, BMMP-201501, BMMP-201501, BMMP-201502, BMMP-201503, BMMP-201504, BMMP-201505, BMMP-201506, BMMP-201508, BMMP-201510, BMMP-201511, BMMP-201512, BMMP-201512, BMMP-201514, BMMP-201515, BMMP-201516, BMMP-201517, BMMP-201518, BMMP-201519, BMMP-201520, BMMP-201523, BMMP-201524, BMMP-201525 and one check BARI Mung-6 were evaluated in the trial. BD lines were collected from PGRC, BARI, Gazipur and others were exotic. The experiment was laid out in Lattice design. The spacing was 40 cm X 05 cm. Seeds were sown March 15-25, 2017. Two weeding were done to keep the crop weed free up-to first picking. MYMV data taken on a 0-8 scoring scale (Malik, I. A. 1992). and CLS (0-8) scoring ( Haque et al. 1994) described .

Achievement/Findings:

Disease reaction of MYMV and CLS of the tested genotypes are presented and distribution of mungbean lines in various infection categories of MYMV are presented. The best (2.17) MYMV score obtained in BMMP-201506 and BMMP-201508 and poorest (5.50) score was found in the line BD-6914. In data it is seen that high yellow mosaic virus infection observed in RPRS, Madaripur and lowest in RARS, Jessore. Most of the lines in Jessore location achieved resistant score where most of the lines in Madaripur location achieved moderately resistant score. In mean data of three locations it is seen that BMMP lines were performed better against mosaic disease. Among the 41 lines (without BARI Mung-6), 22 lines showed highly resistant reaction against YMV. These 22 lines need to be screened next year.
