The field experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University during July to December 2015 to find out effects of urea super granule application on physiological and yield attributes of rice cultivar BRRI Dhan 31 and BRRI Dhan 34. The experimental treatments included two T. aman rice varieties viz. BRRI Dhan 31 and BRRI Dhan 34 and six levels of nitrogen viz. no nitrogen, pilled urea (50 kg/ha), USG 32.5 kg/ha, USG 50 kg/ha, USG 62.5 kg/ha and USG 75g ha-1. Rice cultivars differed significantly in all growth and yield contributing characters and BRRI Dhan 31 produced the highest grain yield (3.73 t/ha). Among the treatments, USG 62.5 kg/ha performed the best on all the parameter studied and gave highest grain yield (3.85 t/ha). Interaction of urea application and rice yield revealed that significantly higher grain yields were given by BRRI Dhan 31 and USG 62.5 kg/ha (4.45 t/ha). The higher grain yield was attributed mainly to the number of effective tillers/hill, filled grains/panicle and 1000-grain weight.

To find out the effect of cultivars and urea super granules on the growth, yield and yield contributing characters of T. aman rice.

The experiment was conducted during the period from July to December, 2015 in T. aman season. The experiment was conducted in the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University farm, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Rice variety BRRI Dhan 31 and 34 were used. Prilled urea (PU) and urea super granules (USG) fertilizer were used as the sources of nitrogen fertilizer. The sprouted seeds were sown at prepared nursery bed as uniformly as possible. The field layout was made according to design immediately after final land preparation. Individual plots were cleaned and finally leveled with the help of wooden plank. The experimental plots were fertilized at 100, 50, 62.5, 10 kg/ha in the form of triple superphosphate (TSP), muriate of potash (MP), gypsum and zinc sulphate, respectively one day before transplanting. The entire amounts of triple superphosphate (TSP), muriate of potash (MP), gypsum and zinc sulphate were applied at final land preparation as basal dose. The USG weighing 1.8 g each was placed at 5-10 cm soil depth at 10 days after transplanting (DAT) in the center of four hills in alternate rows granule in one spot to supply as per treatment. The experiment consisted of two factors; (A) different types of Varieties (V1: BRRI Dhan 31 and V2: BRRI Dhan 34) and (B) six different levels of nitrogen (N0: no nitrogen, N1: pilled urea 50 kg/ha, N2: USG 32.5 kg/ha, N3: USG 50.0 kg/ha, N4: USG 62.50 kg/ha and N5: USG 75.0 kg/ha). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The size of unit plot was 4.2 m ? 3 m. The distance between the blocks was 1 m and that between plots was 50 cm. Thirty days old seedlings were uprooted carefully and were kept in soft mud in shade. Seedlings were then transplanted maintaining spacing of 25 cm x 15 cm from row to row and hill to hill, respectively. During plant growth period two hand weedings were done, first weeding was done at 23 DAT followed by second weeding at 38 DAT. Irrigation water was added to each plot according to the critical stage by applying was done up to 5 cm. Plants were infested with rice stem borer and leaf hopper to some extent which successfully controlled by applying two times of Diazinone 60 EC. Crop was protected from birds during the grain filling period.

The harvesting was done on ten pre-selected hills from which data were collected and 6 mid lines from each plot was separately harvested, bundled, properly tagged and then brought to the threshing floor. The grains were cleaned and sun dried to moisture content of 12%. Finally grain and straw yields/plot were recorded and converted to t/ha. Data were recorded on yield and yield contributing characters. The recorded data on various parameters were statistically analyzed. The mean for all the treatments was calculated and analysis of variance for all the characters was performed by F-test. Difference between treatment means were determined by least significant difference (LSD) according to Gomez and Gomez (1984).
