Field Screening of Selected Mungbean Lines Resistant to Yellow Mosaic Visurs (ymv) and Cercospora Leaf Spot (cls). Season: 2017-2018

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at Regional Pulses Research Station (RPRS), Madaripur during Kharif-I, 2018 to evaluate the performance of mungbean genotypes for searching of Yellow Mosaic Virus (YMV) and Cercospora Leaf Spot (CLS) disease resistant and high yielding lines. Twenty one mungbean lines with a check BARI Mung-6 were evaluated in the trial. Results revealed that BMMP-201524 gave the lowest MYMV score (1.66) where the line BMMP-201510 gave the highest (6.66) score. Maximum germplasm showed resistant reaction against CLS. The highest yield (1750 kg/ha) obtained in BMMP-201518 and BMMP-201519 where as lowest (800 kg/ha) in BMMP-201510.

Objectives:

To find out suitable mungbean lines which are more tolerant to MYMV having the high yielding capacity and to use resistant host is most important to find out useful way of management of this disease.

Methodology:

The field trial was conducted at Regional Pulse Research Station (RPRS), BARI, Madaripur during Kharif-I, 2018 under irrigated condition. Twenty one genotypes/lines viz. BD-6941, BD-6943, BMMP-201501, BMMP-201502, BMMP-201503, BMMP-201504, BMMP-201506, BMMP-201508, BMMP-201510, BMMP-201511, BMMP-201512, BMMP-201513, BMMP-201514, BMMP-201515, BMMP-201516, BMMP-201517, BMMP-201518, BMMP-201519, BMMP-201520, BMMP-201524, BMMP-201525 and one check BARI Mung-6 were evaluated in the trial. All the genotypes were selected from previous year trial consisted of 42 genotypes of Kharif-I, 2017. The experiment was laid out in Lattice design. The spacing was 40 cm X 05 cm. Seeds were sown March 15, 2017. Two weeding were done to keep the crop weed free up-to first picking. MYMV data taken on a 0-8 scoring scale (Malik, I. A. 1992).

Achievement/Findings:

The best (1.66) MYMV score obtained in BMMP-201524 and maximum (6.66) score was found in the line BMMP-201510. There was one entry graded as immune reaction bearing score 1.66, four graded as highly resistant bearing score 2.00-2.66, ten genotypes grouped into resistant bearing score 3.00-3.66, three graded as moderately resistant bearing score 4.00-4.33, two graded as susceptible which took the score 5.00 and two as susceptible bearing score 6.33-6.66. Among the 21 lines, 15 lines showed immune to resistant reaction against YMV. These 15 lines will be screened again in next year.
