The study was undertaken with BARI Fulcopi 1 population at experimental field of Olericulture Division, Horticulture Research Centre, BARI, Gazipur during the winter season of 2015-2016 to purify degenerated population for original varietal characters. The segregating population of BARI Fulcopi 1(check) and the selected population to its original type were used as planting material in this study. In respect of days to 50% curd initiation and days to curd harvest of selected population required average 75 days to curd initiation and 86 days to first curd harvest, while BARI Fulcopi 1 required 79 days to curd initiation and 91 days for curd harvest. Almost similar numbers of leaves were observed in both the population, average 16 and 17 leaves were recorded in selected population and BARI Fulcopi 1, respectively. Average leaf length (53.5 cm) and breadth (59.2 cm) were recorded in selected population while leaf length (47.5 cm) and breadth(68.6 cm) were recorded in BARI Fulcopi 1.The longest curd length (17.6 cm) and breadth (10.4 cm) were also recorded from selected degenerated population, which contributed to produce higher single curd yield in the selected population. Comparatively higher marketable curd weight (910g) was produced by selected population while (805.0 g) was by BARI Fulcopi 1.Considering single curd weight selected population produced higher curd wt. (720.0g) but BARI Fulcopi 1 produced (610.0g). The average yield (24.48t/ha) from degenerated population while BARI Fulcopi 1 was (20.70t/ha). Moreover, creamy whitish color and compact curd was observed in the selected population which indicates the original varietal character of BARI Fulcopi 1. Selection was further made within the selected population for advancing the generation to purify the variety having homogeneity of BARI Fulcopi 1.

To purify selected degenerated population to BARI Fulcopi 1 having its identical varietal characters such as leaf arrangement, curd shape, size and also curd yield.

The study was conducted at the experimental field of Olericulture Division, HRC, BARI, Gazipur during the period of October 2015 to January 2016. It was non-replicated trial. Last year, about 250 population of BARI Fulcopi 1 was increased for mass selection. Out of these populations only five true type plants were selected and first generation seeds were collected. Then first generation seeds of the selected population and BARI Fulcopi 1 were sown on 03 October, 2015. Thirty days old seedlingswere transplanted in the field on 04 November, 2015. The unit plot size was 1 m × 4.5 m and plant was spaced into 60 × 45 cm. The land was fertilized with cowdung-N-P-K-B-Mo @ 10 t-240-150-220-2-1 kg/ha, respectively. The entire quantities of cowdung, P, B, Mo were applied during final land preparation and one third of N and K were applied during pit preparation. The remaining N and K were applied in three equal installments at 15, 30 and 45 days after transplanting. Other than insect and disease control all other agronomical operations were done as and when needed. Through this study, developed about 250 populations having about 40% true to type population of BARI Fulcopi 1. Randomly 10 plants were selected for data collection. Data on days to 50% curd initiation, days to harvest, number of leaves, leaf length (cm) and leaf breadth (cm), plant height, leaf arrangement (bouquet shape), curd length (cm), curd diameter (cm), whole plant weight (g), marketable curd weight (g), single curd weight (g) and yield (t/ha) were measured.

From the result it was found that the cauliflower lines are diverse in their performance such earliness, curd size, total marketable yield, curd colour and compactness. Further selection was done within the selected population for advancing the generation towards homogeneity and trial will be conducted in the next season with selected plant population to purify  the BARI Fulcopi 1.
