Evaluation of Cooking Jackfruit Genotype (at Pahartali Region). Season: 2017-2018

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Performances of Eight jackfruit genotypes were studied at the Agricultural Research Station, Pahartali, Khulshi, Chattagram during 2017-2018. The earliest flowering was observed in AH Pah 005 (Late December) and the latest was observed in AH Pah 002 and AH Pah 008 respectively (Early February). The earliest harvesting was observed in AH Pah 006, AH Pah 007 and AH Pah 008 (Early April). The heaviest fruit was observed in AH Pah 005 (3.78 kg) and the lightest was observed in AH Pah 006 (1.83 kg) followed by AH Pah 004 (3.32 kg). The edible portion was highest (74.48 %) in AH Pah 007 followed by AH Pah 004 (72.24 %) where the lowest (55.56 %) in AH Pah 005. Latex is scanty in AH Pah 005, very scanty in AH Pah 006 and AH Pah 007, and the rest of the genotypes are abundant. Eating quality scored excellent in AH Pah 007, very good in AH Pah 005 and AH Pah 008, and the rest of the genotypes are good to taste.

Objectives:

To evaluate promising lines and to select desirable cooking Jackfruit variety for higher yield and qualities.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Research Station, Pahartali, Khulshi, Chattagram during 2017-2018. Eight genotypes, namely AHPah-001, AHPah-002, AH Pah 003, AH Pah 004, AH Pah 005, AH Pah 006, AH Pah 007 and AH Pah 008 were included in the study. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design having no replication. The trees were 12-15 years old. The trees were fertilized twice a year in October and May as per the schedule described by Mandal et al., 2011 @ 7500-1200-1250-800-500 g of cowdung, urea, TSP, MoP and zypsum per plant, respectively. Diazinon 60 EC @ 2 ml along with Ridomil MZ-75 @2.5 ml per litre of water was sprayed with the help of a power sprayer before the flower initiation to control soft rot disease and fruit borer insect. Weeding, irrigation and other intercultural operations were done as per recommendation by Mandal et al., 2011. The girth of the trunk was measured at a height of 15 cm from ground level. Data on flowering, fruit size, single fruit weight, fruit shape and colour, edible portion presence of latex and organoleptic characteristics were recorded. Achievement/Findings:

Among the tested genotypes AHPah-005, AHPah-007, and AHPah-008 showed better performance than the other genotypes. So, the experiment will be continued.
