The study was conducted at the experimental field of Horticulture Research Centre, BARI, Gazipur during 2017-18 to investigate the response of sweet gourd (cv. BARI Hybrid Misti Kumra-1) under different irrigation and nitrogen levels. The experiment was carried out in a split plot experiment followed by RCBD with three replications. The treatments were: Faxtor A: I1=Irrigation up to FC at 7 days interval after stand establishment (SE), I2= Irrigation up to FC at 14 days interval after PE and I3 = Irrigation up to FC at 21 days interval after SE and Factor B: Four doses of PU and USG as N1=100 kg N/ha as PU N2= 100 kg N/ha as USG, N3= 80 N/ha as USG and N4=60 kg N/ha as USG. A significant response of sweet gourd to different irrigation and N levels was observed. Among the different treatments, I2N1 (irrigation at 14 days interval with 100 kg N as PU) were relatively better yielding (35.08 t/ha) followed by I1N3 (31.92 t/ha) for sweet gourd production. The lowest yields were observed from the treatment I4 in both the years. The highest (34.89 cm) seasonal water was used in treatment I1N1 and lowest (18.54 cm) were found in treatment I3N2. The results suggest that I2N1 (irrigation at 14 days interval with 100 kg N as PU) might be optimum irrigation and fertilizer levels for sweet gourd production on the basis of yield.

1. To study the effect of different irrigation and nitrogen levels on water productivity and nitrogen use efficiency of pumpkin and

2. To evaluate the performance of PU and USG at different irrigation interval in pumpkin production to evaluate the growth and yield of pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata L.) under different irrigation frequencies and nitrogen levels,

3. To study the effect of irrigation, PU and USG levels on water productivity and nitrogen use efficiency of pumpkin and

4. To select the best irrigation schedule and N levels for pumpkin production

The experiment was conducted at field of Horticulture Research Centre during 2017-18 to evaluate the growth and yield of pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata L.) under different irrigation frequencies and nitrogen levels, to study the effect of irrigation, PU and USG levels on water productivity and nitrogen use efficiency of pumpkin and to select the best irrigation schedule and N levels for pumpkin production. The experiment was carried out followed by a split plot on a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Factor A: Three irrigation interval as 7 days, 14 days and 21 days interval up to field capacity and Factor B: Four doses of PU and USG as 100 kg N/ha as PU and 100, 80 and 60 kg N/ha as USG. A blanket doses of P35K75S20 +Zn4B1.5 kg/ha will be applied for all treatments. Irrigation intervals including of 7, 14 and 21 days were arranged in main-plots and different nitrogen levels (100 kg PU and 100, 80, 60 kg USG/ha) were arranged in subplots. BARI Hybrid Misti Kumra-1 was used as test crop. Spacing: 2 m × 2 m within the bed surrounding by dike and 2 m within the bed. Transplanting/sowing was 30th  November, 2017. All the plots were fertilized uniformly with well decomposed cowdung @ 5 t/ha. Entire cowdung, P, K, S, Zn and B were applied during pit preparation which was 7 days before transplanting. Prilled urea was top dressed in 3 split as 25% at 10 DAT, 50% at 35 DAT and 25 % at 70 DAT mixing with soil. But USG was applied in two splits at 10 DAT followed by ring method, 10 cm apart from plant base and 7-8 cm deep placement and at 60 DAT followed by dibbling method. Main plots were irrigated up to field capacity in irrigation times. Before each irrigation soil moisture content will be measured and required amount of water will be calculated to apply to attain field capacity. Furrows in each plot were irrigated by a hose (4 cm diameter) with a counter on it in order to prevent the lateral spread of water. Plots were surrounded by dikes with a distance of 2 m between plots. Before starting irrigation regimes, an irrigation interval of 7 days was used until the plantlets became 2 expanded leaves. Initial soil moisture was measured using gravimetric method. Soil moisture prior to irrigation according to treatment basis and at the time of harvest was determined by the same method. Irrigation water was applied to bring the soil moisture up to field capacity considering the effective root zone depth. Irrigation treatments began after the plants establishment. Check basin method of irrigation was applied to each plot using hose pipe by calculating discharge. Data were recorded on i) Yield and yield contributing characters ii) Number of bran.ch/plant iii) Date of first flowering  iv) Number of  male/female flower/plant v) Number of fruit/plant vi) Fruit size (length and breadth) vii)  Fruit weight  viii) Yield/ha ix) Moisture reading before each irrigation x) Amount of irrigation water used xi). Economical data xii) Rainfall data if any, etc. The data were exposed to the statistical analysis of variance by two-way ANOVA using statistical analysis tool MSTATC and means were separated by Duncan’s multiple range test at 5% level of probability.

From above discussion, it was revealed that sweet gourd has a good response to irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer. Irrigation at 14 days interval with 100 kg N as PU (I2N1) gave the highest yield but higher water productivity was obtained with I3N2 (Irrigation at 21 days interval with 100 kg N as USG). The experiment will be repeated for next year for further evaluation.
