The experiment was conducted on cabbage (var. Atlas 70), cauliflower (Hybrid F1- SiraGiKu); broccoli (Premium crop); tomato (BARI Tomato-14)  and eggplant (BARI Bagun-4) in the location HRC, BARI, Joydebpur only in 2015-16 and Joydebpur and four other location as Akbarpur, Moulvibazar, Jamalpur, Burirhat, Rangpur and Jessore in 2016-17and 2017-18 cropping season followed by RCB design with 3 replication to assess the comparative performance of USG as compare to prilled urea, to reduce cost of production through minimum use of urea fertilizer and to assess the technology at different locations to transfer the technology for adoption by the vegetable growers. Two treatments were selected as T1= Prilled urea (PU) and T2= Urea super granule (USG). In 1st year it was conducted with three crops as cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli but two more crop as tomato and eggplant were added in the year 2016-17 and 2017-18. From three years results it was observed that USG is more profitable than PU both in respect of yield and economic profitability for all the locations. So, USG technology is more viable for the production of upland vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, tomato and eggplant. So, the technology is suggested to be transferred to the farmer field for adoption.

1. To assess the comparative performance of USG as compare to prilled urea;

2. To reduce cost of production through minimum use of urea fertilizer; and

3. To assess the technology at different locations to transfer the technology for adoption by the vegetable growers.

The experiment was conducted in the location of Joydebpur only in 2015-16 cropping season. Three crops; cabbage (var. Atlas 70), cauliflower (Hybrid F1- ShiraGiKu) and broccoli (Premium crop) in 1st year and five crops cabbage (var. Atlas 70), cauliflower (Hybrid F1- ShiraGiKu) and broccoli (Early Green and Paraiso), tomato (BARI Tomat-14) and Eggplant (BARI bagun-4) were studied at Joydebpur and four other location as Akbarpur, Moulvibazar, Jamalpur, Burirhat, Rangpur and Jessore in the year  2016-17and 2017-18 to test the performance of USG in comparison to prilled urea (PU). Two treatments were considered as T1= Prilled urea and T2= Urea super granule (USG). For cabbage 12 USG; for cauliflower and broccoli 10 USG; tomato 9 and for eggplant 15 USG were applied to grow the crops. Recommended prilled urea was applied for each of the crops @ 240, 180, 180, 175 and 175 kg N/ha for cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, tomato and eggplant, respectively. All other fertilizers were applied as a blanket doses as per recommendation for the crops. Prilled urea was applied as top dressing in two equal splits at 10 and 35 DAT for cabbage and 15 and 35 DAT for cauliflower, broccoli, tomato and eggplant, respectively. USG was placed in ring method at a depth of 7-8 cm and 10 cm apart from plant base at a time on 10 DAT for cabbage and 15 DAT for cauliflower, broccoli, tomato and eggplant covering with soil. Earthing-up was done and irrigation and other intercultural operations were done as and when necessary for the clean cultivation of the crops. The crops were transplanted in 24 November 2015 and 16 December 2016-17 in Joydebpur, 28 November, 2016 in Akbarpur, Moulvibazar, 26 November, 2016 in Jamalpur, 12 December, 2016 in Burirhat, Rangpur and 14 December, 2016 in Jessore and son for the next years.

From above discussion it could be concluded that USG is more profitable than prilled urea both in respect of yield and economic profitability for cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, tomato and eggplant production. From the results found from different location it was observed that USG produced higher yield than that of the PU for all the crops studied. From economic point of view it was also clear that USG is more profitable as compared to prilled urea. As both the treatments were recommended doses but USG dose contained lower amount of urea, so it could be said that USG technology is more viable for the production of upland vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, tomato and eggplant. So, the technology could be suggested to transfer to the farmer’s field for adoption.
