The experiment was conducted at the experimental farm of Olericulture Division, Horticulture Research Centre (HRC), Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) during the season of 2017-2018 with eight sweet pepper genotypes to evaluate their performance in late winter season. In the both sowing time the genotype CA 007 showed earliness (28 days and 27 days, respectively) and others were at per while range was (35-39 days) while CA 014 & Mistimorich 1 took longest time (40-41 days). There was no significance difference in harvest duration. In first and last sowing time harvest duration range was 44-69 and 59-69, respectively. In first and last sowing time plant height range was almost similar. Fruit length and breadth range were 11.20-12.73cm and 9.90-11.86cm; 6.13-7.93 cm, respectively at first and last sowing time. In first sowing time number of fruit per plant was comparatively higher than last sowing time and the range were 6.87-22.97 and 6.40-17.87, respectively. The line CA 011 produced maximum number of fruit (22.97) in first sowing but at last sowing time the highest number of fruit (17.87) was recorded from the genotype CA 010. In first sowing time BARI Mistimorich 1 produced the heaviest fruit (69.27 g) while in last sowing time CA 014 produced the heaviest fruit (96.70 g). The genotype CA 011 (1.81 kg) and CA 014 (1.70 kg) produced the highest fruit yield per plant in first sowing period while the line CA 007 (914.80g) produced the highest fruit yield per plant followed by CA 011 (835.90g) in last sowing time. Same trend was observed in calculated per hectare yield. Total soluble solid was almost same in both the season. Considering sowing time, yield and other horticultural traits the line CA 011 and BARI Mistimorich 2 may be suitable for both planting time, beside this, BARI Mistimorich 1 may be selected for earliness and bigger size fruit.

To find out the suitable genotypes for late winter of sweet pepper

 

 

The experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Olericulture Division, HRC, BARI, Gazipur during the season of 2017-2018 to evaluate their performance at late winter season. The genotypes, viz.CA 005, CA 007, CA 010, CA 011, CA 012, and CA 014 included as materials and BARI Mistimorich 1 and BARI Mistimorich 2 were used as check. For first late winter seeds were sown in the seed bed on 26 December, 2017 and seedlings were transplanted in the main field on 25 January, 2018. For last late winter seeds were sown in seed bed on 16 January, 2018 and seedlings were transplanted in the main field on 15 February, 2018. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. The unit plot size was 3.0 m × 1.0 m accommodating 16 plants in each plot having 50 cm × 40 cm plant spacing. Standardization of the manure and fertilizers for sweet pepper has still not been done under Bangladesh condition so far it was reviewed. However, Edison (1995) recommended manure and fertilizers doses for sweet pepper and till today, the Spices Research Centre of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute has been following that in sweet pepper. Based on this crop was fertilized with cow dung, urea, TSP, MoP, gypsum and ZnO @ 10 t/ha, 217, 333, 200, 111 and 5 kg/ha, respectively. Half of the quantity of cowdung was applied during final land preparation. The remaining half of cowdung, the entire quantity of TSP, ZnO, gypsum and one third each of urea and MoP were applied during pit preparation. The rest of urea and MoP were applied in two equal splits, 25 and 50 days after transplanting of seedlings in the field. Irrigation, pruning, mulching, weeding and other intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. Data on days to 50 %  flowering, harvest duration, plant height, fruit length, fruit breadth, number of fruit/plant average fruit weight, fruit yield/plant, fruit yield (t/ha), TSS (%) were recorded. The compiled data were subjected to statistical analysis for interpretation of results.

Considering sowing time, yield and other horticultural traits the genotype CA 011 and BARI Mistimorich 2 was suitable for both the sowing time. Moreover, the genotype CA 014 was suitable for the first sowing and the genotype CA 007 and BARI Mistimorich 2 for last sowing. Besides this, BARI Mistimorich 1 may be selected for earliness and bigger size fruit though yield was moderate. Therefore, the trial may be repeated for next year for more confirming of the results.
