Efficacy of New Fungicides in Controlling Anthracnose Disease of Mango Fruits

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A field trial with eight new fungicides viz. KGT2 Care 75 WDG (Tebuconazole 50% + Trifloxystrobin 25%) @ 0.5 ml/l. water, KG Gold 80WP (Mancozeb 80% ) @ 2 g/lit. water, S.K Zim 50WP (Carbendazim 50 WP) @ 2 g/l. water, Tatamil 72 WP (Mancozeb 64% + Cymoxanil 8%) @ 2 g/l. water, Micra 72 WP (Mancozeb 64% + Cymoxanil 8%) @ 2 g/l. water, Latex 75 WDG (Tebuconazole 50% + Trifloxistrobin 25%) @ 0.5 ml/l. water, Mansil 72 WP (Mancozeb 64% + Cymoxanil 8%) @ 1 g/l. water and Suij in72 WP and Suij in72 WP (Zineb 68% + Hexaconazole 4%) 2 g/l. water was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Burirhat, Rangpur during February to July 2020, against anthracnose disease of mango fruits. None of the fungicides was able to reduce disease incidence and severity ≥80% over control where no fungicide was sprayed.

Objectives:

To investigate the efficacy of some new fungicides against the anthracnose of mango fruits.

Methodology:

A field trial was conducted at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Burirhat, Rangpur to evaluate the performance of new fungicides against anthracnose disease of mango. The investigation was performed during February of July 2020 with 08 (eight) new fungicides viz. KGT2 Care 75 WDG (Tebuconazole 50% + Trifloxistrobin 25%) @ 0.5 ml/l. water, KG Gold 80WP (Mancozeb 80% ) @ 2 g/l. water, S.K Zim 50WP (Carbendazim 50 WP) @ 2 g/l. water, Tatamil 72 WP (Mancozeb 64% + Cymoxanil 8%) @ 2 g/l. water, Micra 72 WP (Mancozeb 64% + Cymoxanil 8%) @ 2 g/l. water, Latex 75 WDG (Tebuconazole 50% + Trifloxistrobin 25%) @ 0.5 ml/l. water, Mansil 72 WP (Mancozeb 64% + Cymoxanil 8%) @ 1 g/l. water and Suij in72 WP and Suij in72 WP (Zineb 68% + Hexaconazole 4%) 2 g/l. water and one control plant where no fungicide was sprayed following randomized complete block design with three replications. The spray was commenced on BARI mango-3 of 22 years old established in a mango orchard just after development of inflorescence. In order to prevent flower damage by insect pests Confidor (Emidaclopide) @ 2g/10 liter was mixed with all the fungicides during spray. Four sprayed were done as March 11, 31, April 16 and May 02 of 2020. Randomly selected 21 fruits were harvested at full maturity from each treatment. Harvested treated fruits along with the untreated control were allowed to ripe in normal condition at room temperature (27-34°C). The development of anthracnose on the harvested fruits was recorded 7 days after harvested following a standard severity scale (1-5) developed by Dodd et al. (1991).

Standards for the assessment of anthracnose of mango

The incidence of anthracnose disease was calculated by the following formula:

The severity of anthracnose disease i.e.Percent Disease Index (PDI) was recorded. The severity was indexed on a scale of 1-5 (Dodd et al. 1991) Using this index values, PDI was computed as follows:

PDI= 100

Collected data were analyzed following statistically computer package MSTAT-C and means were compared using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT).

Pre-harvest fungicidal spray had significant effect in controlling severity of anthracnose development in harvested mango fruits while 100% disease incidence was everywhere. All the fungicides reduced severity of anthracnose at different levels but none of them was able to reduce 80% disease severity over control (Table 1). The lowest disease severity (PDI 40) was recorded in mango fruits harvested from the plants sprayed with treatment Micra 72 WP and highest (PDI 75) was in control plot where no fungicide was sprayed
