Management of Different Foliar Diseases (purple Blotch, Stemphylium Leaf Blight, Downy Mildew and Botrytis Leaf Blight) of Onion

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted select effective of fungicide(s) and its' combination for controlling foliar diseases of onion during 2018-19 and 2019-20 cropping season. All the tested fungicides significantly managed foliar diseases of onion and increased yield over control. Out of them, Luna sensation (Fluopyram 25% + Trifloxystrobin 25%) @ 1ml/liter water was the best for controlling diseases (> 95% disease reduction over control in both years) and the highest bulb yield 18.91 an 21.90 t ha^-1 in 2018-19 and 2019-20 cropping year was also in the same treatment.

Objectives:

The experiment has under taken to select effective fungicidal combination(s) for controlling foliar diseases of onion.

Methodology:

The trial was carried out in RARS, Burirhat, Rangpur, during the winter seasons of 2018-2019 and 2019-20 using variety BARI Piaz-1. The experiment was laid out following Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) having three blocks or replications. There were 9 (nine) fungicides and its combination i.e. 12 fungicidal treatment such as Rovral 50 WP (Iprodione 50%) @ 2 g / lit water, Rovral 50 WP (Iprodione 50%) @ 2 g + Deconil 500 SC (Chlorothalonil 50%) @ 1.5 ml / lit. water, Headline^TM TM (Pyraclostrobin 6.7% + Dimethomorph 12%) @ 2.5 g / lit. water, Rovral 50 WP (Iprodione 50%) @ 2 g + Headline^TM TM @ 2.5 g / lit. water, Rovral 50 WP (Iprodione 50%) @ 2 g + Acrobat MZ (Mancozeb 60% + Dimethomorph 9%) @ 2 g / lit. water, Amister Top (Azoxystrobin 20% + Difenoconazole 8%) @ 1 ml / lit water, Amister Top @ 1 ml + Acrobat MZ 2 g / lit. water, Azonil 56 SC (Azoxystrobin 6% + Chlorothalonil 50%) @ 1 ml / lit. water, Navara 28 SC (Azoxystrobin 20% + Ciproconazole 8%) @ 1.5 ml / lit. water, Luna sensation (Fluopyram 25% + Trifloxystrobin 25%) @ 1 ml/lit. water and one was control (no fungicide used). Thirty five days old seedlings of BARI Piaz-1 was transplanted on January 05, 2019 and January 10, 2020 having spacing 10 cm x 10 cm. The unit plot size was 1.0 m x 1.0 m and plot to plot distance was 1.5 m in a block and block to block distance was 2.0 m. The spray schedule was January 22, February 12, March 03 and 29 of 2019 and February (02, 10 and 19), March (02, 10 and 19) and April 01 of 2020. For avoiding border effect of fungicide cloth barrier was used. Each plot received fertilizers like Urea, TSP, MoP, Gypsum, Magnesium Sulphate, Zinc Sulphate and Anna purna jaibo sar @ 240-260-150-120-100-10-2000 kg ha^-1as recommended by Spices Crops Research Center (SCRC), BARI. Agronomic practices were done properly. Data on disease incidence and severity were recorded following standard procedure. Haulm suppression was done 100 days after planting (DAP) and tubers were harvested 15 days after haulm pulling. Onion bulb yield (t ha^-1) was also recorded.

Achievement/Findings:

Fungicide Luna sensation was the best one for foliar disease management and bulb production and others fungicides like Rovral 50 WP + Deconil 500 SC, Headline^TM TM, Rovral 50 WP + Headline^TM TM, Rovral 50 WP + Acrobat MZ 72 WP, Amister Top 325 SC + Acrobat MZ 72 WP, Navara 28 SC and Zampro DM which controlled disease ≥ 80% over control may be also recommended for foliar disease management of onion.
