An experiment was conducted at Pulses Research Centre (PRC), Ishurdi, Pabna during Rabi 2017-18 to find out the suitable and high yielding genotypes/variety of grasspea. Six genotypes and two checks BARI Kheshari-2 and BARI Kheshari-3 were evaluated in this trial. Results revealed that all the characters under study were significantly different among the genotypes except pods plant-1and 100 seed weight. The result has shown that Sel-1348 gave maximum yield (1752 kg ha-1) followed by BGP 13009 (1670 kg ha-1) and the lowest yield 1279 kg ha-1was recorded from BARI Khesari-2.

It is the hardiest crop among pulses and can survive where soil quality is poor and extreme environmental conditions prevail. Production of grasspea differs from region to region. So, the study was undertaken to screen out the high yielding germplasm suitable in this region.

The experiment was conducted at Pulses Research Centre (PRC), Pabna during Rabi 2017-18 to find out the suitable and high yielding genotype/s of grasspea. Six genotypes and two checks BARI Kheshari-2 and BARI Kheshari-3 were evaluated in this trial. Eight germplasm/variety were Sel-1348, BGP 13004, BGP 13008, BGP 13009, BGP 130010, Narail local, BARI Khesari-2 and BARI Khesari-3. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCB) with two replications. The unit plot size was 4m × 4m and spacing was 40 cm × 05 cm. Seeds were sown in the rows carefully at 3 cm depth and covered by soil on 01 December 2017. All recommended fertilizers were applied as basal dose during final land preparation. The crop was harvested after maturity. Data on yield contributing characters were recorded from 10 randomly selected plants from each plot. Grain yield (kg/ha) was recorded from the whole plot. Data were analyzed statistically by using Statistical Tool for Agricultural Research version 2.0.1 (STAR 2.0.1) statistical computer program.

In the experiment tested genotypes/variety showed significant differences in respect of yield and yield contributing characters (Table 3.3). Days to flower of grasspea were varied from 67-75 days. The maximum days to flower (75) were recorded in Narail local and minimum (67) in BARI Kheshari-3. The ranges in days to maturity were varied from 115-120. The maximum days to maturity (120) were recorded in BARI Kheshari-3 and the minimum (115) in BGP 13009. Plant height ranged from 84.70-104.7 cm. The highest (104.7 cm) plant height was recorded in BARI Kheshari-3 and lowest (84.70cm) in BGP-13004. The number of pods/plant varied from 35-44. The maximum number of pods/plant (44) obtained from BARI Kheshari-3 followed by (39) in Sel-1348 and lowest (35) in BGP-13008. 100 seed weight ranged from 5.38-7.16 g. Maximum 100 seed weight (7.16g) obtained from BARI Kheshari-2 and minimum (5.38g) in Narail local. The yield of the tested genotypes varied from 1279-1752 kg/ha. The highest yield (1752 kg/ha) obtained from Sel-1348 followed by (1670 kg/ha) in BGP-13009 and the lowest (1279 kg/ha) in BARI Kheshari-2. All the genotypes under study provided considerable yield and other agronomic characters. So, the genotypes Sel-1348, BGP-13009, BGP-130010 and BGP-13008 were selected for the preliminary yield trial.
