Integrated Management in Controlling Blast of Wheat

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Rice-wheat is the major cropping system in Bangladesh and the major cereals for food security. Magnaporthe oryzae pathotype Oryza is the rice blast pathogen and M. oryzaepathotype Triticum is the wheat blast pathogen. Four components were evaluated in 2017-18 at RARS, Jashore for integrated management of blast disease on wheat. The components of seed treatments, splitting of nitrogen fertilizers, foliar spray of additional fertilizers and different groups of fungicidal spray were selected for integrated disease management. Results from four components were integrated in 2018-19 for effective blast disease management of wheat.The lowest disease severity was recorded in the plots treated with Xelora+Opera+Cabrio+SiO₂ and Vitaflow+Opera+Cabrio+SiO₂ followed by Xelora+Opera+Cabrio, Vitaflow +Opera+Cabrio and Trichoderma+Opera+Cabrio+SiO₂. Singly nativo was not good for blast disease control.

Objectives:

This experiment was designed to find out effective integrated disease management practice to control blast disease for both crops under the rice-wheat cropping system of Bangladesh.

Methodology:

The field experiment was conducted at the research field of RARS, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Jessore. Fifteen treatment combinations were tested to control blast disease. BARI gum-26 (susceptible) was used in this experiment. The experiment was laid out in RCBD design with three replications. The unit plot size was 2 X 2.5m with 20 cm row to row spacing. Sowing date was December 12. Recommended fertilizer and other agronomic practices were done. Statistical software R was used for analysis of data and the means were tested by the least significant difference (LSD) at 5% level of significance. The different treatments were:T₁=Xelora+Opera+Cabrio+SiO₂, T₂=Xelora+Opera+Cabrio, T₃=Xelora+SiO₂^,T₄=Vitaflow+Opera+Cabrio+SiO₂^,T₅=Vitaflow +Opera+Cabrio, T₆=Vitaflow + SiO₂T₇=Talc. Trichoderma+Opera+Cabrio+SiO₂, T₈=Talc. Trichoderma +Opera+Cabrio, T₉=Talc. Trichoderma + SiO₂, T₁₀=Provax+Opal+Cabrio +SiO₂, T₁₁=Provax+Opal+SiO₂, T₁₂=Provax+ Opal+Cabrio, T₁₃=Provax+ SiO₂, T₁₄=Provax+Nativo+SiO₂, T₁₅=Provax+Nativo and T₁₆=Control. Collected data were analyzed following statistically computer package MSTAT-C and means were compared using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT).

Achievement/Findings:

From the result it can be concluded that seed treatment with Xelora (Thiophenate methyl 55%+Pyraclostribin 5%)/Vitaflow (Carboxin+Thirum liquid)/talc based Trichoderma harzianum, foliar application SiO2, Opera (Pyraclostrobin and Epoxiconazole)and Cabrio(Epoxiconazole) is very effective against wheat blast disease and increase wheat production noticeably. Therefore, this technology can be disseminated to the famers.
