Four genotypes along with BARI Motor-3 were evaluated at Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna, Regional Pulses Research Station, Madaripur, Pulses Research Substation, Gazipur, Regional Agricultural Research Station, Jashore, and Barishal during Rabi 2017-18 for evaluating their performance over locations. Significant variations were observed for days to flower, days to maturity, pods plant-1, 100 seed weight and yield in kg ha-1. Among the genotypes, BFP 11016 flowered earlier and also showed earlier maturity along with Jhikorgacha local. BARI Motor-3 followed by Jhikorgacha local showed the highest number of pods plant-1. Apart from these, maximum seed weight was observed in Sekim local followed by BFP 11016. In the case of yield performance over locations, BD 4209 performed the best among the genotypes followed by Jhikorgacha local.

 After the evaluation of genotypes in a suitable location, it is necessary to evaluate them in the preliminary yield trial (PYT) in multiple locations to assess their performance across locations.

The experiment consisted of five entries including BARI Motor-3 as a check. The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with three replications and five different locations (Ishurdi, Gazipur, Jashore, Madaripur and Barishal. The genotypes were Jhikorgacha local, BFP 11016, Sekim local and BD 4209. Each entry was sown in-unit plot of 4 rows × 4 m long with a spacing of 50 cm between rows and plant to plant 10 cm. The spacing between the two plots was 100 cm. Seeds were sown in the rows carefully by hands at 3 cm depth and covered by soils. Post sowing irrigation was given to ensure seed germination. Mulching was done and crusts were broken. Weeding was done to keep the plots free from weeds. Each of the entries was observed seedling to harvest and compared with check. Grain yield was calculated from the whole plot. Yield contributing characters were taken from the 10 randomly selected plants from the middle rows of each plot. At maturity stage, randomly five plants from each plot were selected and harvested separately for recording the yield contributing traits like plant height, pods plant-1, 100 seeds weight, seeds pods-1 etc. Yield data was recorded from the whole plot and converted into kg ha-1. The statistical analysis was done using PLABSTAT computer software. Yield stability for the different five locations was analyzed using the PB Tools computer software. Yield and yield contributing characters are presented in Table 4.6.

Significant variation was observed among the genotypes regarding days to flower, days to maturity, pods per plant, 100 seed weight and yield in kg ha-1. In the case of flowering and maturity among the five locations, genotypes performed a bit earlier at Barishal. Among the genotypes,BFP 11016 was flowered earlier and also showed earlier maturity along with Jhikorgacha local. Among the test entries, BFP 11016 was the most dwarf one. The entries, BARI Motor-3 followed by Jhikorgacha local showed the highest numbers of pods/plant. Apart from these, maximum100 seed weight was observed in Sekim local followed by BFP 11016 from the mean values of five locations. In the case of yield performance over locations, BD 4209 performed best among the genotypes followed by Jhikorgacha local. GGE biplot analysis was done to find out stable genotypes among locations. GGE biplot is exploited for the graphical display of G×E pattern of yield trial data with several advantages. The yield of each genotype in a tested environment is a result of the genotypic main effect (G), environmental main effect (E) and genotype × environment (GE) interaction (Yan and Kang, 2002). In this experiment, the first two PCs of the GGE model explained 85% of the variation in G+GE. Five genotypes represent a polygon and the genotypes corner of the polygon most responsive genotypes (Fig.6). The genotype Jhikorgacha local showed the most interaction with the environment followed by BD 4209. All the entries distributed into four sectors. Among the tested locations, Gazipur and Ishurdi had larger environmental vectors indicating high discriminating ability. Considering biplot analysis and yield data, the genotypes viz.BD 4209, Sekim local and BARI motor-3 showed stable performance across the locations. Among the locations, Barishal and Ishurdi respectively showed high potentiality having better yield compared to others. Considering different desirable characters and stability parameters, two entries viz.BD 4209 and Jhikorgacha local were selected to evaluate during the next season at RYT trial.
