Different type of USG applicator were collected from various organization like as BARI, BRRI, BAU, and IFDC. All the USG applicators were tested at laboratory and different location.
Laboratory test: All the USG applicators were tested to find out its performance during 2014-15 in laboratory of FMPE division, BARI, Gazipur. Lab test were conducted to find out different parameters like USG missing rate, USG excess rate, breakage, weight, hopper capacity, etc.
Field experiments design: Different USG applicator performances were tested in three locations ( FMPE Divisional Research field, RARS Jamalpur and farmer field in Gazipur) during 2015-16. Field tests were conducted 7-8 days after transplanting Boro rice. The applicator was tested in 2-5 cm of standing water and the variety was BRRI dhan-28. Experiments were designed with three replications and six treatments. The treatments were:- T1= Application of USG by the BRRI applicator, T2= Application of USG by the BARI applicator, T3= Application of USG by the IFDC single row applicator, T4= Application of USG by the IFDC injector type applicator,T5= Application of USG by hand, T6= Control. Experiments plot size was (30×2.5), (20.5×2.5) and (10×5)m2 at farmer field Gazipur, FMPE research field and RARS, Jamalpur respectively. The plant spacing and row spacing were 20 cm and the size of USG used for the experiment was 2.5g.
Payback Period: The length of time required to recover the cost of an investment. The payback period of a given investment or project is an important determinant of whether to undertake the position or project, as longer payback periods are typically not desirable for investment positions.
Pay back period is calculated as: Payback Period = Cost of Project/Annual Cash Inflow.
Data collection: All machine performance data were collected from laboratory tests and experiments fields. Crop response data were collected from experiment fields like plant height, plant population, yield, etc. Yield data were collected from each plot. R software is used for analyzing various data.
