Efficacy of New Fungicides in Controlling Phomopsis Blight and Fruit Rot Disease of Brinjal

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The efficacy of five different new fungicides including one check were tested on disease incidence of Phomopsis blight and fruit rot of brinjal at Gazipur during the 2018-2019 cropping season. All the fungicides had significant effect on reduction of disease incidence compared to control. Fungicides of carbendazim group was found better for controlling phomopsis blight and fruit rot of brinjal compared to other tested groups.

Objectives:

The present research work was done to find out some effective new fungicides against phomopsis blight and fruit rot of brinjal.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted for controlling phomopsis blight of brinjal during the cropping season 2018-19 at the Plant Pathology Field, BARI, Gazipur. There were 7 treatments viz. T₁= Biomyl plus(0.2%), T₂= Topman (0.2%), T₃= Hayprogim (0.2%), T₄= Arba gold (0.2%), T₅= Defence (0.2%), T₆= Autostin (0.2%) and T₇= Control with three replications. The design of the experiment was RCBD. Variety of BARI begun-4 (Kazla) was sown in the experiment. The spacing was maintained 100 cm x 75 cm. Recommended doses of fertilizer and proper intercultural operations were applied in the experiment. Data were recorded on disease incidence of phomopsis blight. Achievement/Findings:

In the present experiment, effect of six different fungicidal treatments on disease incidence of Phomopsis blight of brinjal was studied. Among the six fungicides, application of Autostin, Top man, Arba gold and Defense 35 Sc performed better for reduction of phomopsis blight and fruit rot diseases followed by Biomyl plus and Top man. The lowest disease incidence was recorded from Autostin (9.5%) followed by Arba gold 50 wp (10%), Hayprozim 50wp (10.1%) and Defence 35 SC (10.2%). The highest disease incidence (59 %) was found in the control plot . In terms of disease reduction of phomopsis blight, Autostin (84.23%), Arba gold 50 wp (83.05%), Hayprozim 50wp (82.88%) and Defense 35 SC (82.71%) were found over control treatment.
