Comparative Study of Healthy and Leaf Yellowing Diseased Seed for Fiber Yield of Kenaf

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The present study was conducted at Kishoregonj Regional Station of BJRI to study the effect of leaf yellowing virus-infected plants seed on fiber yield. To conduct the experiment, seeds were collected from plants free from healthy plants and from leaf yellowing infected HC-95. Design RCBD was followed with three replications. Findings revealed that the percentage of leaf yellowing plants cultivated with seeds collected from the healthy crops is 40.10% where it was 45% from the plants cultivated with seeds collected from leaf yellowing plants. Plant height and base diameter are almost similar for each of the healthy and leaf yellowing infected plant. The fiber yield of the plants sown with seeds from healthy and leaf yellowing diseased plants was 3.14t/ha and 3.01t/ha, respectively. The seed yield of the plants sown with seeds from healthy and leaf yellowing diseased plants was 7.52 t/ha and 7.46 t/ha, respectively.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the Kishoregonj regional station of BJRI using seeds collected from plants free from leaf yellowing and seeds from leaf yellowing infected plants of HC-95. The design followed as RCBD with three replications. The size of the unit plot was 2.5m x 4m and the space between replication was 1m.

Achievement/Findings:

Plant height, Base diameter, Fibre yield and seed yield were almost similar both of HC-95 plant cultivated with seeds from healthy plants and that of from leaf yellowing infected plants. The experiment will be repeated at JAES, Manikgonj.
