Effect of Urea Fertilizer Top Dressing Management of Weed Control at Different Age of Jute Crop

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at Jute Research Regional Station, Kishoreganj during the year 2018 in order to identify the effective doses and optimum time of urea top dressing in jute crop for reducing the production cost of tossa jute (O-795). The experiment was laid out in RCBD with three replications and recommended dose of fertilizer with weeding was as control. Urea top dressing doses (D1 = 10–14–0, D2 = 12–16–0, D3 = 12–14–10) and age of plants (A1 = Basal–35–0, A2 = Basal–25–45, A3 = 05–35–0, A4 = 05–25–45) were used as treatments. Results revealed that A4D3 treatment (05–25–45 days after germination with 12–14–10 gm^-2 urea was applied as top dress respectively) gave the highest fibre yield of 3.05 t/ha, where the control gave 2.53 t/ha. The highest fibre yield was found 3.05 t/ha in the treatment A4D3 and cost reduction was 48,730 TK./ha than the control. The cost of production of the control was 1,14,220 TK./ha and at A4D3 was 65,490 TK./ha. The BCR was high in every treatment than the control. The highest BCR was found in A4D3 (2.58) and the lowest was in control (1.23).

Objectives:

The experiment was undertaken to identify the effective doses and appropriate time of urea top dressing for higher yield with reducing weeding cost.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Jute Research Regional Station, Kishoreganj in 2018 followed by RCBD design with three replications maintaining unit plot size 3m X 2.1m. Space between plots, block and around the field was 1m with 20 cm deep drain. Line to line distance was 20 cm. The treatments were urea top dressing dose gm^-2(D1=10-14-0, D2=12-16-0, D3=12-14-10) and urea top dressing time days after germination (A1=Basal-35-0, A2=Basal-25-45, A3=05-35-0, A4=05-25-45). BJRI tossa jute (O-795) was used as a variety. Recommended dose of urea, TSP and MoP to the control and except urea, TSP and MoP to others experimental plot were incorporated at the time of final land preparation. Urea were applied as a top dress for weed management at the different plant ages (days after germination) and doses respectively. The seeds were sown on 2 April, 2018 and harvested on 2 August, 2018.

Achievement/Findings:

It is evident from the study that it is possible to get higher fibre yield and reducing the production cost of jute through urea fertilizer top dressing for weed management at different plant ages of jute crops. Finally, it can be concluded that the cost and return analysis, urea fertilizer top dressing for weed management at different plant age of jute crop could be made highly profitable in jute cultivation.
