Survey of Insect and Mite Pest of Jute and Allied Fibre Crops in 2018

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The survey was done to know insect and mite pest infestation in the experimental plots at different regional and sub-stations of BJRI during jute season, 2018. An infestation of jute hairy caterpillar was ranged from 6.67% -31.67% during the month of June-July. Semilooper infestation was the highest (35.00%) at the Monirampur sub-station. Apion infestation ranged from 6.00-20.33% was observed during the month of May-August. In Faridpur 26.67% yellow mite infestation was recorded during the month of May-June. The highest infestation of spiral borer (51.67%) and mealy-bug (33.33%) were recorded in kenaf and mesta at Faridpur regional station during the month of August-September.

Objectives:

To forecast insect and mite pest of jute and allied fibre crops for adopting control measure

Methodology:

Survey on insect and mite pest of jute & allied fibre crops were conducted in the experimental plots of different regional and sub- stations of BJRI according to prescribed format during the jute-growing season of 2018. At first, three sample sites were selected randomly from the experimental plots and then data were collected according to the prescribed survey sheet. Each sample plot size was one square meter.

Achievement/Findings:

Forecasting and monitoring of insect and mite pest due to insect and mite infestation needed to be measured. It provides correct timing of management of insect and mite pest population. It was observed that environment of Faridpur regional station was favorable for the infestation of spiral borer and mealybug.
