Management of Downy Mildew (pseudoperonospora Cubensis) of Cucurbits

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at RARS, Rahmatpur, Barishal during 2017-2018. Management of downy mildew of khira was conducted byseed treatment with Dithane M-45(Mancozeb (80%) @ 0.2%, Cluster 75 WP (Mancozeb 63 % + Carbendazim 12 %) @ 0.2 %, Jibal 77 WP (Copper Hydroxide) @ 0.2%, Acrobat MZ (Dimethomorph (9%) +Mancozeb (60%)) @ 0.2%, Defence 35 SC (Carbendazim + Hexaconazole) @ 0.1%, Secure 600 WG (Fenamidone+ Mancozeb) @ 0.2%,Bioderma (0.3%) and Control. From this experiment, it was found that spraying with Dithane M-45(Mancozeb (80%) @ 0.2%/Bioderma (0.3%) can effectively control the downy mildew of cucurbits

Objectives:

The present study was undertaken to find out a suitable management package against the disease of cucurbits.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Rahmatpur, Barishal during, 2017-2018. The design was RCB having 3 replications. The variety was used Khira (local). The sizes of the plots were 3.0 m x 2.0 m. The experiment was conducted under natural infection conditions. Recommended doses of fertilizers (Cow dung 60 Kg, Urea 700 g, TSP 600 g, MoP 700 g, Zypsum 400 g, Zinc sulphate 50 g and Boric acid 40 g per decimal) were used. The eight treatments including control were viz.Dithane M-45(Mancozeb (80%) @ 0.2%, Cluster 75 WP (Mancozeb 63 % + Carbendazim 12 %) @ 0.2 %, Jibal 77 WP (Copper Hydroxide) @ 0.2%, Acrobat MZ (Dimethomorph (9%) +Mancozeb (60%)) @ 0.2%,Defence 35 SC (Carbendazim + Hexaconazole) @ 0.1%, Control, Secure 600 WG (Fenamidone+ Mancozeb) @ 0.2% and Bioderma (0.3%). Three sprays were given at an interval of 10 days after the first disease appear. Disease data were recorded before every spray using a 0-4 rating scale given by Thindet al. 1991. Percent disease index (PDI) was computed from the final data, percent disease Data (PDI) was computed on the basis of the formula according to Krishna Prasad et al., 1979 described as below:

Achievement/Findings:

Among the treatments, Dithane M-45(Mancozeb (80%) @ 0.2% showed the lowest PDI (30.07%) in downy mildew disease management and highest in the control plot (64.19%). Statistically similar PDI (32.70% and 33.04%) were also observed in Bioderma (0.3%) and Cluster 75 WP (Mancozeb 63 % + Carbendazim 12 %) @ 0.2 %, treated plots. The highest yield (33.94 t/ha and maximum disease reduction (53.15 %) was observed in Dithane M-45(Mancozeb (80%) @ 0.2%treated plots. The lowest yield (13.44 t/ha) was obtained from control plots. From the findings of the present study, it was found that spraying with Dithane M-45(Mancozeb (80%) @ 0.2%/Bioderma (0.3%) can effectively control the downy mildew of cucurbits.
