Management of Gummy Stem Blight (black Rot) on Watermelon

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at RARS, Rahmatpur, Barishal during 2017-2018. Management of gummy stem blight on watermelon was conducted byseed treatment with Ridomil gold MZ 68 WG (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.2%, Nativo75 WG (Tebuconazole+Trifloxystobin) @ 0.1%, Jibal 77 WP (Copper Hydroxide) @ 0.2%, Karishma 28 SC (Azoxystrobin + Cyproconazole)@ 0.2%, Defence 35 SC (Carbendazim + Hexaconazole) @ 0.1%, Aimstar Top 325 SC (Azoxystrobin +Difenoconazole) @ 0.1%, Autostin 50 WDG @ 0.2 %, Filia 525 SE (Tricyclazole + Propiconazole) @ 0.1 %, Secure 600 WG (Fenamidone+ Mancozeb) @ 0.2% and Bordeaux paste (1:1:100). From this experiment, it was found that seed treatment with treatment with Bordeaux mixture, sprays of Jibal (0.2%) /Secure (0.2%) /Karishma (0.2%) can effectively control the Gummy stem blighton watermelon.

Objectives:

The present study was undertaken to find out a suitable management package against the gummy stem blight disease of water melon.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Rahmatpur, Barishal during, 2017-2018. The design was RCB having 3 replications. The variety was used Asian ii (hybrid). The sizes of the plots were 4.0 m x 2.5 m. The experiment was conducted under natural infection conditions. Recommended doses of fertilizers (Cow dung 40 Kg, Urea 800 g, TSP 700 g, MoP 1000 g, Zypsum 400 g, Zinc sulphate 5 g, Boric acid 40 g and MgO 50 g per decimal/ 6 pit) were used. The11 treatments including control were viz.Ridomil gold MZ 68 WG (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.2%, Nativo75 WG (Tebuconazole+Trifloxystobin) @ 0.1%,Jibal 77 WP (Copper Hydroxide) @ 0.2%, Karishma 28 SC (Azoxystrobin + Cyproconazole)@ 0.2%,Defence 35 SC (Carbendazim + Hexaconazole) @ 0.1%,Aimstar Top 325 SC (Azoxystrobin +Difenoconazole) @ 0.1%, Autostin 50 WDG (Carbendazim) @ 0.2 %, Filia 525 SE (Tricyclazole + Propiconazole) @ 0.1 %, Secure 600 WG (Fenamidone+ Mancozeb) @ 0.2% and Bordeaux mixture (1:1:100). Two sprays were given at an interval of 10 days after the first disease appear. Disease data were recorded before every spray using a 1-5 rating scale given by Zhang et al (1997) and Zuniga et al (1999). Percent disease index (PDI) was computed from the final data, percent disease Data (PDI) was computed on the basis of the formula according to Krishna Prasad et al., 1979 described as below:

Achievement/Findings:

Among the treatments, Bordeaux mixture showed the lowest PDI (6.83%) in gummy stem blight disease management and the highest in the control plot (44.67%). Statistically similar PDI (10.83% and 12.00 %) were also observed in Jibal (0.2%) and Secure (0.2 %) and Karishma (0.2%)treated plots. The highest yield (18.81 t/ha and maximum disease reduction (84.71 %) was observed in Bordeaux mixture treated plots. The lowest yield (12.94 t/ha) was obtained from control plots.
