Integrated Management of White Mold Disease of Mustard (2017 - 2018)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Ishurdi, Pabna during rabi season 2017-18 to find out the effective management practices for controlling white mold /sclerotinia rot disease of mustard. Five treatments viz. T₁= Soil application of poultry litter (5 t/ha) + Seed treatment with Provax (2.5 g/kg seed) + Rovral (0. 2%) spray (3 times), T₂= Soil application of poultry litter (5 t/ha) + Seed treatment with Provax (2.5 g/kg seed) + Folicur (0. 2%) spray (3 times), T₃= Soil application of mustard oil cake (500 kg/ha) + Seed treatment with Provax (2.5 g/kg seed) + Rovral (0. 2%) spray (3 times), T₄= Soil application mustard oil cake (500 kg/ha) + Seed treatment with Provax (2.5 g/kg seed) + Folicur (0. 2%) spray (3 times) and T₅= Control were tested for their performance against the disease.The lowest disease incidence (2.11%) was recorded from treatment T₃ which was statistically similar to treatment T₁(2.30)_,T₂(2.21) and T₄(2.28). The highest incidence (18.67%) was found in control plots. Accordingly, the highest yield (1350 kg/ha), net income (Tk.17583/ha) and benefit were recorded from treatment T₁ treated plots followed by treatment T₂. Hence, considering efficacy, yield and benefit treatment T₁ (Soil application poultry litter + Seed treatment with Provax + Rovral spray) was the best among the treatments followed by treatment T₂ (Soil application poultry litter + Seed treatment with Provax + Folicur spray).

Objectives:

The present research work was undertaken to find out the effective management practice against white mold disease of mustard.

Methodology:

The field experiment was carried out at the experimental field of RARS, Ishurdi, Pabna during rabi season 2017-18. The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with three replications. The unit plot size was 3m x 4m. Seeds of BARI Sharisa-14 were sown on 22 November 2017. The line to line and plant to plant spacing were 30 cm and 5 cm respectively. Five treatments viz. T₁= Soil application of poultry litter (5 t/ha) + Seed treatment with Provax (2.5 g/kg seed) + Rovral (0. 2%) spray (3 times), T₂= Soil application of poultry litter (5 t/ha) + Seed treatment with Provax (2.5 g/kg seed) + Folicur (0. 2%) spray (3 times), T₃= Soil application of mustard oil cake (500 kg/ha) + Seed treatment with Provax (2.5 g/kg seed) + Rovral (0. 2%) spray (3 times), T₄= Soil application of mustard oil cake (500 kg/ha) + Seed treatment with Provax (2.5 g/kg seed) + Folicur (0. 2%) spray (3 times) and T₅= Control were taken in this experiment. Poultry litter was applied three weeks before planting and incorporated with the soil properly for good decomposition. Mustard Oil Cake was applied one week before planting and was incorporated with the soil properly. Seeds were treated before sowing. The crop was allowed to grow under natural conditions and subjected to natural infection. Spraying of fungicides was done three times at 7 days intervals starting from the immediate appearance of disease symptoms. Irrigation and other cultural practices were performed as and when necessary. Data were recorded on the incidence of white mold, plant height, number of siliqua/plant and yield (t/ha). The data were analyzed statistically for tests of significance and mean compared following the Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT).

Achievement/Findings:

From the above results, it may be concluded that Soil application of poultry litter (5 t/ha) + Seed treatment with Provax (2.5 g/kg seed) + Rovral (0. 2%) spray (3 times) or Soil application of poultry litter (5 t/ha) + Seed treatment with Provax (2.5 g/kg seed) + Folicur (0. 2%) spray (3 times) found effective and economic in controlling of white mold ( Sclerotinia rot) disease and increase yield of mustard.
