Integrated Management of White Mold of Garden Pea (2017 - 2018)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The field trial was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station Ishurdi, Pabna during the Rabi season of 2017-18 to find out effective management practices against white mold/Sclerotinia rot disease of a garden pea. Eight treatments viz. T₁= Saw dust burning of soil, T₂= Stable bleaching powder @ 20 kg/ha in soil, T₃=Trichoderma based bio-fungicide in soil, T₄= Bacillus based biocontrol agent (BCA) in soil, T₅= Fungicidal spray three times with Rovral 50 WP @ 0.2%, T₆= T₁ + T₂+ T₃ + T₄, T₇= T₁ + T₂ + T₃ + T₄ + T₅ and T₈= Control were used in this experiment. The lowest disease incidence (3.17%) was found in treatment T₇ (T₁ + T₂ + T₃ + T₄ + T₅) which was statistically similar to treatment T₆ (3.30%) and T₅(4.18) and the highest (11.43%) was recorded in control plots. The lowest disease severity (2.87%) was observed from treatment T₇ (T₁ + T₂ + T₃ + T₄ + T₅) which was significantly closed to T₆ (2.97%) and T₅ (3.20%) and the highest was found in control plots. The highest pod yield (7.60 t/ha) was collected from T₇ (T₁ + T₂ + T₃ + T₄ + T₅) and the lowest yield (4.79 t/ha) was recorded in control plots.

Objectives:

To find out the effective management practice against Sclerotinia rot of garden pea.

Methodology:

The field experiment was carried out at the experimental field of RARS, Ishurdi, Pabna during the Rabi season of 2017-18. The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with three replications. The unit plot size was 2.5m x 2.1m. Seeds of BARI Motorshuti-3 were sown on December12, 2017. The spacing was 30 cm x 20 cm. Eight treatments viz. T₁= Saw dust burning of soil, T₂= Stable bleaching powder @ 20 kg/ha in soil, T₃=Trichodermabased bio-fungicide in soil, T₄= Bacillus based biocontrol agent (BCA) in soil, T₅= Fungicidal spray three times with Rovral 50 WP @ 0.2%, T₆= T₁ + T₂+ T₃ + T₄, T₇= T₁ + T₂ + T₃ + T₄ + T₅ and T₈= Control were applied in this experiment.Recommended fertilizers were applied to raise a good crop. Intercultural operations were done in order to maintain the normal hygienic condition of the crop. Weeding was done two times during the period of crop growth. The experiment was monitored regularly to observe the onset of Sclerotinia rot disease. The green pods were harvested two times on February 22 and February 25, 2018. The Disease incidence (%), disease severity (%), plant height, number of pods per plant, the weight of pods per plant and pod yield were recorded and converted its, t/ha. The data were analyzed statistically for tests of significance and mean compared following the Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT).

Achievement/Findings:

Based on the above results it might be concluded that treatment T₇ (T₁ + T₂ + T₃ + T₄ + T₅), T₆(T₁ + T₂ + T₃ + T₄) and T₅ (Fungicidal spray three times with Rovral 50 WP @ 0.2%) showed better performance for the control white mold/Sclerotinia rot disease and increased yield over control of garden pea.
