Efficacy of Fungicides in Controlling White Mould Disease of Bean (2016 - 2017)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Effect of five different fungicides on disease incidence of white mould and yield of bean were studied at RARS, Burirhat, Rangpur during Rabi season 2016-2017. All the chemical treatments had a significant effect on the reduction of disease incidence as well as a positive impact on the yield of the crop compared to control. Secure and rovral were found better than others for controlling white mould disease of bean.

Objectives:

To develop suitable management practice(s) of the disease

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at RARS, Burirhat, Rangpur during the Rabi season, 2016-2017. A susceptible variety BARI Shim 1 was sown for the trial. The unit plot size was 4m x 2.5m and seeds were sown in the pit with the date of 4 November 2016 maintaining proper spacing. The crop was raised as per recommended agronomical practices. The experiment was carried out following Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Five fungicides of different groups like Bavistin (0.2%), Secure (0.2%), Rovral (0.2%), Indofil (0.2%) and Ridomil (0.2%) were applied with the initiation of the disease at 10 days interval. Data on percent disease incidence and yield were recorded. The recorded data were analyzed statistically to find out the level of significance and the variations among respective data were compared following Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT).

Achievement/Findings:

Among the five chemical treatments, Secure and Rovral gave good results followed by Bavistin and Indofil. In the case of disease incidence, the lowest disease incidence was found from Secure (5%) preceded by Rovral (7%). The highest disease incidence (20 %) was found from the control plot followed by Bavistin and Indofil. In fact, all the chemical treatments had a significant effect on reduction of disease incidence and yield of the crop compared to control. In terms of disease reduction of white mould, Secure and Rovral were showed the best performance. The highest yield 21 (t/ha) was found in Secure followed by 19 (t/ha) in Rovral. Secure and Rovral were found better than others for controlling white mould disease of the bean as well as to increase the yield of the bean.
