Plant Pathology Division, BARI, Gazipur

An experiment was conducted at the pot house of Plant Pathology Division at BARI, Gazipur during 2016-17. Seven treatments were used like T1 = Mustard oil cake (0.6 t/ha), T2= Neem oil cake (2.5 t/ha), T3= Poultry refuse (6 t/ha), T4= Tricho–compost(2.5t/ha), T5=. Rovral 50 WP (0.2%), T6 =Thining leaf (4-5 times after true leaves form) and T7 =Control. Each pot soil was inoculated with Sclerotinia sp grown on wheat grain colonized with @ 15 g/pot before 30 days of seed sowing. BARI lettuce-1, the seedling was used as planting material in this experiment. The treatment of control gave the highest percent of disease severity of white mold diseases whereas the lowest percentage of disease severity was observed from the Neem oil cake treatment. The figures were 76.28 % and 23.45 % respectively. In the case of, no of the leaf, there was no significant difference among the treatments. In contrast, there was no significant difference among the Tricho–compost, Thinning leaf, and  Control treatments in case of height per plant. On the other hand,   45.67 g and 44.33 g dry matter weight was seen from Neem oil cake and Rovral treatments respectively. Among the treatments use of Neem oil cake as a soil amendment before 7 days of planting and foliar spray of Rovral of fifteen days after interval gave satisfactory results to reduce the white mold disease of lettuce.

To find the effective management practices of white mold diseases of lettuce.

The experiment was conducted of the pot-house of plant Pathology Division at BARI, Gazipur during the 2016-17 cropping seasons. The RCBD was used with three replications. Each pot soil was inoculated with Sclerotinia sp grown on wheat grain colonized with @ 15 g/pot before 30 days of seed sowing. BARI lettuce-1, the seedling was used as planting material in this experiment which was supplied by the seed technology Division. Seven treatments were used such as T1 = Mustard oil cake in the soil @ 0.6 t/ha before 20 days of planting T2= Neem oil cake (2.5 t/ha) in the soil before 7 days planting, T3= Poultry refuse(6t/ha) in the soil before 7 days planting,    T4= Tricho–compost (2.5 t/ha) in the soil before 7 days planting,  T5=. Rovral 50 WP (0.2%) foliar spray , T6 =Thining leaf (4-5 times after true leaves form)   T7 =Control. Intercultural operations were done and where needed. The pots were inspected regularly to observe the white mold disease symptoms as well as the appearance of white mycelium and sclerotia. The severity rating scale used was 0 = non-infected, 1 = 1 to 10%, 2 = 11 to 25%, 3 = 26 to 50%, 4 = 51 to 75%, 5 = 76 to 99%, and 6 = 100% diseased tissue. Data were recorded on disease incidence, disease reduction over control, Disease severity, length of leaf/ plant, height/plant and total leaf/ plant, seed/ plant, and dry matter weight. Data were analyzed for ANOVA and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) using MSTAT-C program to compare the means for all phases of the Experiment.

The treatment of control gave the highest percent of diseases severity of white mold diseases whereas the lowest percent of diseases severity was observed from the Neem oil cake treatment. The figures were 76.28 % and 23.45 % respectively. Moreover, 28.65% and 29.44 % diseases severity was recorded from Rovral treatment and Poultry refuse treatment successively. Besides, almost up to 45 % diseases severity was recorded from rest of three treatments like, Tricho–compost, Mustard oil cake, Thinning leaf   treatments. On the other hand, the diseases reduction over control is 69.25 % in Neem oil cake treatments and 61.40 % in Poultry refuse treatments. On the contrary, the lowest figure was 24.55 % belongs to Mustard oil cake to reduce diseases over control. In case of no of leaf, the highest no of leaf was observed from Neem oil cake while the Thining leaf treatment was the lowest. These figures were 25.6 and 14.2 successively. However, there was no significance different among the treatments incase of length of leaf per plants. In addition, 5.8 cm and 5.5 cm length of leaf was observed from Neem oil cake and Tricho-compost treatments accordingly. Besides, rest of treatments with control gave more than 4 cm length of leaf of these experiments. In contrast, all the treatment gave the significance difference over control except Tricho-compost, Thining leaf treatments. However, more than 80 % plant height was recorded all the treatments.

However, the highest seed weight was performed from Rovral treatment while the lowest seed weight observed from control treatments. The figure was 3.6 g and 1.5 g respectively. On the contrast, 45.67 g and 44.33 g dry matter weight were seen from Neem oil cake and Rovral 50 WP treatments respectively. Among the treatments use of Neem oil cake as a  soil amendment  before 7 days of planting and foliar spray of Rovral 50 WP of fifteen days after interval gave satisfactory results to reduce the white mold  disease of lettuce.
