Plant Pathology Division, BARI, Gazipur

An experiment was conducted of Plant Pathology Divisional field at  BARI, Gazipur during 2016-17 to find out effective treatments. Seven treatments were used T1 = Soil drenching with Contaf 5 EC (0.1%) T2= soil application of Tricho-compos( 2.5 t/ha) T3 = Fungicidal spray with Rovral 50 WP(0.1%) T4 = MOC (0.5 t/ha) applied as a soil treatment T5 = Application of poultry refuse in the soil @ 6 t/ha before 20 days of planting    T6 = Soil and stem application of Provex (1 g/L) T7 = Control (Farmers practices). Inka (hybrid) variety of Marigold seedling and RCB was used in this experiment. The severity Rahman and Rahid (2008) rating 0 to 5 scale was used where, 0 = non-infected, 1 = Less than  1 % flower area infected, 2 = 1 to 10 % flower area infected, 3 = 11 to 20 % flower area infected, 4 = 21 to 50 % flower area infected , 5 = More than 50 % flower area infected. From these experiments, the highest disease incidence was recorded from Control treatments whereas the disease incidence from the Rovral 50 WP was the lowest. These were 68.12% and 20.41 % respectively. From the table is seen that the highest percentage of disease severity was recorded from T7 treatments that mean control treatments whereas the disease severity from the Rovral 50 WP treatments was the lowest. These were 67.25 % and 21.35 % respectively.  Moreover, Rovral 50 WP gave satisfactory results not only the uninfected flowers and PDI but also diseases decreased

The present study was undertaken to find out effective management practice of diseases of marigold.

The experiment was conducted in the Plant Pathology field of BARI during the 2016-17 cropping season. The RCB design was used with three replications. Inka (hybrid) variety of Marigold seedling was used as planting material in this experiment. The unit plot size was 3m×2m with a  spacing of 30cm×15cm. Intercultural operations were done and where needed. Six Line per plot and 5 seedlings per line. Seven treatments were used T1 = Soil drenching with Contaf 5 EC (0.1%) T2 = soil application of Tricho-compos( 2.5 t/ha) T3 = Fungicidal spray with Rovral Rovral 50 WP (0.1%),  T4 = MOC (0.5t/ha) applied as a soil treatment T5 = Application of poultry refuse in the soil @ 6 t/ha before 20 days of planting    T6 = Soil and stem application of Provex (1 g/L) T7 = Control (Farmers practices). Rovral was sprayed 12 days interval after appearing the diseases The plots were inspected regularly to observe the white mold disease symptoms as well as the appearance of white mycelium and sclerotia. Whole plots were rated for the presence or absence of disease (disease incidence) and the percentage of total flower area exhibiting symptoms or signs was determined (disease severity). The severity Rahman and Rahid (2008) rating 0 to 5 scale was used, where  0 = non-infected, 1 = Less than  1 % flower area infected, 2 = 1 to 10 % flower area infected, 3 = 11 to 20 % flower area infected, 4 = 21 to 50 % flower area infected , 5 = More than 50 % flower area infected. For sample collection, ten plants/ plots were selected randomly. Data were recorded on disease incidence, disease reduction over control, disease severity, No of infected flowers / selected plant and total flowers / selected plant,. Data were analyzed for ANOVA and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) using MSTAT-C program to compare the means for all phases of the Experiment.

The highest disease incidence was recorded from Control treatments whereas the disease incidence from the Rovral was the lowest. These were 68.12% and 20.41 % respectively.  In addition, poultry refuse and Tricho-compost were shown more or less the same incidence. The incidence was more than 50 % for each. On contrary, 30 % and double percentages of disease incidence were found from Contaf 5EC and Provex, accordingly. On the other hand, the highest disease decreased over control was shown from Rovral while the disease decreased over control from the Tricho-compos treatments was the lowest. The figures were 70.03% and 17.30 % successively. Moreover, 42.24 % and 24.64 % disease decreased over control was recorded from MOC and poultry refuse, successively. The same figure was recorded from the Tricho-compost and Provex. The figure was about 56.33 % for each. The highest percentage of disease severity was recorded from T7 treatments that mean control treatments whereas the disease severity from the Rovral 50 WP treatments was the lowest. These were 67.25 % and 21.35 % respectively. Furthermore, the disease severity is 55.46% in Tricho- compost and 53.28 % in poultry refuse. In the case of flowers per plant, among the treatments Rovral 50 WP, Contaf 5 EC, Poultry Refuse gave the significant difference over the control. Meanwhile, the lowest no of infected flowers was found from Rovral whereas the infected flower from control treatments was the highest. The figures were 1.20 and 7.58 successively. However, among the treatments, Rovral 50 WP gave a significant difference over the control in the case of the uninfected flower. Among the treatments use of a foliar spray of Rovral 50 WP of fifteen days after interval gave satisfactory results to reduce the disease incidence and severity of Sclerotinia rot diseases of marigold.
