A field experiment on effect of organic manure on broccoli was conducted in the Grey Terrace Soil (AEZ-28) of Gazipur during the year of 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 with the objectives to enhance C accumulation in soil, to improve the stock of organic carbon in the soil and to increase crop yield through integrated plant nutrition system (IPNS). There were six treatments viz. T1: Native nutrient, T2: 75% STB, T3: 100% STB, T4: 5 t ha-1 CD + IPNS, T5: 3 t ha-1 PM + IPNS, T6: 3 t ha-1 VC + IPNS. IPNS means releasing amount of nutrient of cowdung, poultry manure and vermicompost were subtracted from STB chemical fertilizers. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with four replications. Data revealed that the T6 treatment produced the highest yield of broccoli 20.71 t ha-1 in 2017 and 23.26 t ha-1 in 2018. This trend of influence was consistent for almost all the yield contributing characters of broccoli. The native nutrient treatment produced the lowest yield (13.88 t ha-1). The highest nutrient uptake by broccoli curd was noted in T6 treatment in both of the year. IPNS through vermicompost improved nutrient status in post harvest soil. Organic manures also increased accumulation of OC in soil.

A field experiment on effect of organic manure on Broccoli was conducted in the Grey Terrace Soil of Gazipur (AEZ-28) during 2016-2017 and 2017-2018. The initial soil samples collected from the depth of 0-15 cm and 15-30 cm at the experimental plot were analyzed in the laboratory following standard methods. Initial values of some important chemical & physical parameters of the experimental soil were recorded. Chemical analysis of cowdung (CD), poultry manure (PM) and vermicompost (VM) were done. From initial soil test results, the rate of different nutrients were calculated. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Six different treatments viz. T1: Native nutrient, T2: 75% STB from chemical fertilizers, T3: 100% STB (Soil Test Based) chemical fertilizer, T4: 5 t ha-1 CD + IPNS, T5: 3 t ha-1 PM + IPNS, T6: 5 t ha-1 VC + IPNS. IPNS means releasing amount of nutrients of cowdung, poultry manure and vermicompost were subtracted from STB basis chemical fertilizers. The unit plot size was 3m x 4m. The tested crop was broccoli and the variety was Green Magic. Thirty one days old seedlings of broccoli was transplanted in line with 50 cm row to row and 50 cm plant to plant on 28 November 2016 and 4 December 2017 at Gazipur. Fertilizer N-P-K-S-Zn-B was supplied from urea, TSP, MoP, Gypsum, Zinc sulphate, monohydrate and Boric acid, respectively. All PKSZnB and 1/3rd of N were applied at the time of final land preparation. The remaining two third of N were equally applied as top dress at 30 and 60 days after transplanting. Three irrigation and other intercultural operations were done as and when required. The broccoli was harvested on 24 January 2017 and 22 February 2018. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded and analyzed statistically using MSTATC. DMRT test was used to determine the significant differences among treatments (Steel and Torrie, 1960). Plant samples and post harvest soil samples were collected from each plot for chemical analysis.

The experiment was conducted in the year of 2016-2017 and 2017-2018. On the basis of the experimental results the following conclusions can be drawn: IPNS through different types of organic manures produced higher broccoli yields than STB basis only inorganic fertilizers; Soil Test Basis (STB) IPNS treatment through vermicompost had significant positive effect on the yield and yield contributing characters of broccoli; IPNS treatments through cowdung or poultry manures produced almost similar yield; vermicompost showed the best performance in producing yield, yield contributing characters, in increasing nutrient uptake by the crops; Organic manuring slightly increased total N, available P, exchangeable K, available S and available Zn & B contents in post-harvest soil; Organic manuring slightly increased OC content, carbon stock & carbon accumulation in soil; and IPNS through vermicompost, poultry manure or cowdung increased chemical properties of post harvest soil and thus sustained productivity of soil. So it could be used for broccoli production and soil health improvement.
