Field experiments by Rhizobium biofertilizer were carried out at Multi-Location Testing site, Kaliganj, Jhenidah on lentil during rabi season 2019-2020; Farming System Research & Development (FSRD) site, Hatgobindapur, Faridpur on lentil and groundnut during rabi 2018-2019 and 2019-2020, On-farm Research Station, Bhola on Mungbean and Soybean, On-farm Research Station, Kushtia on Lentil , Chickpea and Mungbean and Multi-Location Testing site, Dhumuria, Khulna with the objectives i) to evaluate the response of pulse and oilseed legume to Rhizobium biofertilizer under farmers’ field condition, and ii) to motivate uses of biofertilizer instead of N-fertilizer for pulse and oilseed cultivation. The experiment was laid out in RCBD with 4/6 dispersed replications. Unit plot size was 15 m x 10 m. Three fertilizer treatments viz. T1: 22-42-20-5 kg P-K-S-Zn ha-1, T2: 22-42-20-5 kg P-K-S-Zn ha-1 + Rhizobium Inoculum and T3: 50-22-42-20-5 kg N-P-K-S-Zn ha-1 was studied (N dose were different in respect of crops). BARI Masur-6 of lentil, BARI Chinabadam-4 of groundnut and peat-based rhizobial inoculum (strain BARI RLc-104 for lentil and strain BARI RAh-803 for groundnut, BARI RVr-403 for Mungbean, BARI RCa-220 for Chickpea and BARI RGm-903 for Soybean @ 1.5 kg ha-1 were used in demonstration trial. The experimental result revealed that the application of biofertilizer along with PKSZn produced higher seed yield and yield attributes of lentil at Narail, lentil and groundnut at Faridpur. It is evident from the experiment that the application of biofertilizer instead of applying nitrogenous fertilizer can achieve the higher yield of lentil at farmers’ fields in Narail and lentil and groundnut in Faridpur. Higher BCR was noted in T2 treatment where Rhizobium plus chemical fertilizers (PKSZn) were used.

The present study was, therefore under taken i) to evaluate the response of some pulse and oilseed legume crops to biofertilizer under farmers’ field condition, and ii) to reduce the uses of N-fertilizer for pulse and oilseed legume cultivation.

The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design having six replications with three treatments. The unit plot size was 15m × 10m. The variety BARI Masur-6 of lentil, BARI Chola-5 of Chickpea, BARI Mug-6 of Mungbean BARI Soybean-6 of Soybean and BARI Chinabadam-4 of groundnut and peat-based rhizobial inoculum strain BARI RLc-104 for lentil and strain BARI RAh-803 for groundnut, BARI RVr-403 for Mungbean, BARI RCa-220 for Chickpea and BARI RGm-903 for Soybean @ 1.5 kg ha-1 were used in demonstration trial. There were three treatments viz. T1: 22-42-20-5 kg P-K-S-Zn ha-1, T2: 22-42-20-5 kg P-K-S-Zn ha-1 + Inoculum, T3: 50-22-42-20-5 kg N-P-K-S-Zn ha-1 was studied. The above peat-based rhizobial inoculum was used @ 1.5 kg ha-1 containing about 108 cells g-1 inoculum. Chemical fertilizers i.e. P, K, S and Zn were applied in all treatments as basal dose @ 22 kg P ha-1 from TSP, 42 kg K ha-1 from MP, 20 kg S ha-1 from gypsum and 5 kg Zn ha-1 from zinc sulphate for lentil, chickpea. In T3 treatment, 50-22-42-20-5 kg N-P-K-S-Zn ha-1 for lentil, Chickpea and Mungbean and 100-22-42-40-5 kg N-P-K-S-Zn ha-1 for groundnut were used. Lentil seeds were sown in line maintaining 30 cm from line to line distance on 26 November 2019 at Kaliganj, 27-28 November 2018 and 30 Nov – 02 December. 2019 at Faridpur, 27 Nov. 2019 at Kushtia and the groundnut seeds were sown in line maintaining the spacing of 40 cm x 10 cm during 02 Feb. 2020 at Faridpur, Mungbean was sown on 17 Feb. 2020 at Bhola, on 15 March at Kustia and on 03 March at Dumuria, Khulna. Chickpea was sown on 05 December 2019 at Kushtia. The rhizobial population of Rhizobium inoculant was about 108 cells g-1 of inoculant. During the course of the experiment, the growth and development of plants in the field were carefully observed. Lentil was harvested on 14 March 2020 at Kaliganj, Jhenidah, 7-9 March 2019 and 15-16 March at Faridpur, 15 march at Kushtia. Groundnut was harvested on 31 May 2020 at Faridpur. Mungbean was harvested on 22-30 April 2020 at Bhola and 16 May 2020 at Dhumuria, Khulna. Soybean was harvested on 20-30 May 2020 at Bhola and Chickpea was harvested on 11-22 April 2020 at Khustia.  All the data were analyzed statistically.

The result of biofertilizer in lentil, chickpea, mungbean, groundnut and soybean production seems to be promising in respective locations. The highest seed yield obtained from plants treated with PKSZn chemical fertilizer along with Rhizobium inoculum in all the locations which might be suitable and economically viable for legume cultivation in respective locations.
