The experiment was carried out to determine the performance of four blackgram genotypes for yield and yield contributing characters at Ishurdi, Pabna; Barind, Rajshahi; Jessore, Madaripur, Jamalpur and Gazipur. The genotypes were BG-7, BG-4, BG-2 and BARI Mash-3 as a check. In case of days to flowering and days to maturity over six locations, no genotype performed earlier than Check variety BARI Mash-3, but all genotypes flowered early at Jamalpur location and mature early at Joshore location. Among all genotypes, BG-4 was bold seeded. The highest mean seed yield was recorded in BARI Mash-3 (1474kg/ha) followed by BG-4 (1355 kg/ha) and BG-2 (1338 kg/ha). Therefore, two genotypes BG-4 and BG-2 were selected for further evaluation in the Participatory Variety Selection trial next season at different locations of Bangladesh.

After evaluation of genotypes in a suitable location it is necessary to evaluate them over locations to assess their performance. Generally, entries are evaluated over regions under regional yield trial

The experiment was carried out at Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna, Pulses Research Sub Station, Gazipur;OFRD, Barind, Rajshahi; Regional Agricultural Research Station at Jessore, Jamalpur and Barisal during Kharif-II, 2018 following RCB design with 3 replications. Seeds were sown in the field on 12-22 August 2018. Each entry was sown in-unit plot of 8 rows × 4 m long with a spacing of 40×10 cm. Seeds were sown in the rows carefully by hands at 3 cm depth and then covered by soils. Post sowing irrigation was given to ensure seed germination. Mulching was done and soil crusts were broken. Each of the entries was investigated from seedling to harvest and compared with a check. Grain yield was calculated from the whole plot.  At maturity, the best individual genotypes were selected on the basis of earliness and higher yield. Yield data was recorded from the whole plot and converted into kg/ha. The statistical analysis was done using R computer software.

Significant differences were observed for days to flowering among the genotypes over the locations except for Madaripur,for days to maturity among the genotypes over locations except for Gazipur, Jamalpur and Joshore. In case of plant height significant difference was observed among the genotypes only Madaripur location, pods per plant were significantly different Barind, Madaripur and Joshore locations;  Gazipur, Ishurdi and Jamalpur locations were showed significantly different for 100 seed weight. Three advance lines viz; BG-7, BG-4, BG-2 and BARI Mash-3 as a check were used for evaluation in the six blackgram growing areas like Gazipur, Ishurdi, Jamalpur, Barishal, Madaripur and Jashore as Regional Yield Trial. In the case of flowering and maturity over six locations, no genotype performed earlier than Check variety BARI Mash-3 except the genotype BG-7 at Ishurdi location (early flowering), but all genotypes flowered early at Jamalpur location and mature early at Jashore location. The highest plant height 101.7 cm were recorded from BARI Mash-3 plant at Madaripur location. The maximum pods/plant (63) and minimum (17) was recorded from Check variety BARI Mash-3 at Gazipur and Madaripur location among all genotypes. Among all genotypes, BG-4 was bold seeded. The highest mean seed yield was recorded in BARI Mash-3 (1474kg/ha) followed by BG-4 (1355 kg/ha) and BG-2 (1338 kg/ha). GGE biplot analysis was done to find out stable genotypes among locations. GGE biplot is exploited for the graphical display of G×E pattern of yield trial data with several advantages. The yield of each genotype in a tested environment is a result of the genotypic main effect (G), environmental main effect (E) and genotype × environment (GE) interaction (Yan and Kang, 2002). In this experiment, the first two PCs of the GGE model explained 81.93% of the variation in G+GE. Four genotypes represent a polygon and the genotypes corner of the polygon most responsive genotypes.

The genotype BG-7 showed the most interaction with the environment followed by BARI Mash-3. All the entries distributed into three sectors. Among the tested locations, Jashore and Jamalpur had larger environmental vectors indicating high discriminating ability. Considering biplot analysis and yield data, genotypes BARI Mash-3 showed stable performance across the locations. Among the locations, Jamalpur and Gazipur respectively showed high potentiality having better yield comparing to Madaripur. From this evaluation, it may be concluded that two genotypes BG-4 and BG-2 were suitable for high yielding at different locations. It can be selected for testing in the farmer’s field for final evaluation before releasing as varieties
