Experimental site, design & data collection:
The experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Research Station (ARS), BARI, Benarpota, Satkhira during the rabi season of 2017-2018 to know the effect of different tillage depths and different levels of compost on Na-Ca-K dynamics in soil and plant. The soil belonged to the AEZ-11 and AEZ -13. The land topography was medium-high. The soil of the experimental field is clay loam in texture.
There were four tillages (T1 = Tillage up to 6 cm depth, T2 = Tillage up to 10 cm depth, T3 = Tillage up to 15 cm depth, T4 = Tillage up to 20 cm depth (farmer) & four fertilizer doses (F1 = RDF from chemical source, F2 = RDF + 10 t ha-1 compost, F3 = RDF + 5 t ha-1 compost, F4 = Native fertility). The crop varieties were BARI mustard-14, BARI Mung-6 and BRRI dhan49. The experiment was laid out in a split-plot design with three replications. Unit main-plot size was 10.20 m × 4 m and sub-plot was 4 m × 1.8 m. At every 15 days interval soil salinity (dS m-1) was measured by EC meter (HANNA: HI 9835). Data on yield and yield attributes were collected and analysed statistically using MSTAT-C program.
Seed sowing & crop management:
In case of mustard, seeds were sown in 27 November, 2017in where row to row distance was 30 cm. All fertilizers (P-K-S-Zn-B except N) were applied as basal dose during final land preparation as per treatments. As for RDF from chemical source, experimental plots were fertilized with 180-110-60-110-5-10 kg/ha Urea, TSP, MoP, Gypsum, ZnSO4, and Boric acid respectively. Nitrogen as Urea was applied in two equal splits at 5 days after sowing (DAS) and at 25 DAS (flower initiation stage) as per treatments. Three irrigations were applied during the growing period.
In case of mungbean and rice, seeds were sown in 02 March, 2017 and 5 August, 2017 respectively. Seeds were sown in line with a spacing of 30 cm x 5 cm. Fertilizers i.e 50-85-35 kg ha-1 Urea, TSP and MP were applied as basal during final land preparation. All the intercultural operations were done when necessary. Disease and insect pests were always well controlled using suggested applies (BARI, 2014). The crop was harvested at the time of maturity.
