A field experiment on Cauliflower-Amaranth-T. aman cropping pattern was conducted in the Grey Terrace Soil (AEZ-28) of Gazipur and Tista Meander Floodplain Soil (AEZ-3) at OFRD, Bogra during the year of 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 with the objectives to maintain or enhance soil productivity through a balanced use of mineral fertilizers combined with organic sources of plant nutrients, improve the efficiency of plant nutrients thus limiting losses to the environment and to increase sustainable crop yield. There were eight treatments viz. T1: Native nutrient, T2: 75% STB T3: 100% STB, T4: 75% STB + 3 t ha-1 PM, T5: 3 t ha-1 PM + IPNS, T6: 75% STB + 5 t ha-1 CD, T7: 5 t ha-1 CD + IPNS and T8: 125% STB. IPNS means releasing amount of nutrient of cowdung and poultry manure were subtracted from STB chemical fertilizers. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. Data revealed that the T5 treatment produced the highest yield of cauliflower 48.10 and 52.70 t ha-1 at Gazipur and 43.0 & 51.33 t ha-1 at OFRD, Bogra during the year 2014-2015 and 2015-2016, respectively. This trend of influence was consistent for almost all the yield contributing characters of cauliflower in both the location. The highest yield (63.33 t ha-1) of amaranth was noted in T5 (PM + IPNS) treatment. The highest grain yield of T. aman 4.27 & 4.76 t ha-1 at Gazipur and 5.10 & 5.46 t ha-1 at OFRD, Bogra were produced by T5 (3 t PM + IPNS) treatment during the year 2014-2015 and 2015-2016, respectively. The native nutrient treatment produced the lowest yield in case of all crops. The highest benefit cost was found in T7 (5 t CD + IPNS) treatment at both of the locations. Most of the chemical properties of post harvest soil increased due to incorporation of organic manures through integrated plant nutrition system.

The main objectives are :

  1. To maintain or enhance soil productivity through a balanced use of mineral fertilizers combined with organic sources of plant nutrient
  2. To improve the efficiency of plant nutrients, thus limiting losses to the environment
  3. To increase sustainable crop yield

Field experiments were conducted in the Grey Terrace Soil (AEZ-28) at Gazipur and Tista Meander Floodplain Soil (AEZ-3) at OFRD, Bogra during 2014-2015 and 2015-2016. The initial soil samples collected from depth of 0-15 cm were analyzed in the laboratory following standard methods. Initial values of some important chemical parameters of soil of the experimental field were recorded. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Eight different treatments viz. T1: Native Nutrient, T2: 75% STB from chemical fertilizers T3: 100% STB from chemical fertilizers, T4: 75% STB chemical fertilizer + 3 t ha-1 PM, T5: 3 t ha-1 PM + IPNS, T6: 75% STB chemical fertilizer + 5 t ha-1 CD, T7: 5 t ha-1 CD + IPNS and T8 :125% STB chemical fertilizer were selected for different plots randomly. IPNS means releasing amount of nutrients of cowdung and poultry manure were subtracted from STB basis chemical fertilizers. The unit plot size was 3m ´ 3m. The tested crop was cauliflower and the hybrid variety of cauliflower was Snow white. Thirty one days seedlings of cauliflower were transplanted in line with 60 cm row to row and 50 cm seedlings spacing in 28 November at Gazipur and 24 November at OFRD, Bogra in 2015 and 26 November at Gazipur and 22 November at OFRD, Bogra in 2016. The BARI danta-1 was damaged at BARI, Gazipur and it was sown on 19 March 2015 in line with 30 cm at OFRD, Bogra. Seeds were treated with vitavex prior to seeding. The aman variety BRRI dhan 57 were transplanted in line with 20 cm row to row and 15 cm seedlings spacing in 7 August 2015 &17 August 2016 at Gazipur and 1 August 2015 and 4 August 2016 at OFRD, Bogra. Fertilizer N-P-K-S-B were supplied from urea, TSP, MP, gypsum and boric acid, respectively. All PKSB and 1/3 of N were applied at the time of final land preparation. The remaining two third of N were applied as top dress at 30 and 60 days after sowing. Three irrigation and other intercultural operations were done as and when required. The cauliflower was harvested on 12 February at Gazipur and 15 January at OFRD, Bogra in 2015 and on 8 February at Gazipur and 25 January at OFRD, Bogra in 2016. The BARI danta-1 was harvested on 28 April to 6 May 2015 at OFRD, Bogra. The aman variety BRRI dhan 57 were harvested on 21 October 2015 & 30 October 2016 at Gazipur and 25 October 2015 & 4 November 2016 at OFRD, Bogra. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded and analyzed statistically using MSTATC and Statistical Analysis System version 9.3. DMRT and Tukey’s test was used to determine the significant differences between treatments. Plant samples and post harvest soil samples were collected from each plot for chemical analysis. Amaranth was damaged at Gazipur in both the year 2015 and 2016 due to heavy rainfall just after seed sowing but amaranth was completed in 2015 and it was damaged in 2016 at OFRD, Bogra due to heavy rainfall.

The experiment was conducted in the year of 2014-2015 and 2015-2016. On the basis of the experimental results the following conclusions and recommendations can be drawn: Combined application of organic manures and inorganic fertilizers produced higher crop yields in cauliflower-amaranth-T. aman rice cropping pattern than inorganic fertilizers; poultry manure and cowdung had significant positive effect on the yield and yield contributing characters of different crops of the pattern; soil Test Basis (STB) IPNS treatment through poultry manure recorded higher grain yield of different crops in cauliflower-amaranth-T. aman rice cropping pattern; IPNS treatments through cowdung or poultry manures produced almost similar yield and it contain balance and optimum nutrients than that of 100% STB and INM treatments; and IPNS through poultry manure or cowdung increased chemical properties of post harvest soil and thus sustained productivity of soil. So it could be used in cauliflower-amaranth-T. aman rice cropping pattern for sustainable productivity and soil health improvement.
