Efficacy of Hyt-d (chitosan Formulation) in Controlling Seedling Disease Caused by Soil Borne Pathogen Sclerotium Rolfsii of Wheat (2015 -2016)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A pot experiment was conducted in the pot-house of Plant Pathology Division during winter, 2015-2016. Each treatment showed a significant effect in controlling seedling disease caused by S. rolfsii of wheat. When the seed was treated with Provax (T₂) showed the highest disease reduction (57%) and yield increase (135.9%) followed by Trichoderma sp. (T₃) 36.1and 86.3%, respectively. HYT D showed the lowest (22.2 and 32, respectively) effect in reducing disease and increasing yield over control.

Objectives:

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of HYT D in controlling seedling disease caused by S. rolfsii of Wheat

Methodology:

This pot experiment was conducted in the pot-house of the Plant Pathology Division, BARI. In this experiment, Satabdi variety was used as planting materials. The soil was infested by inoculums of S. rolfsii at the rate 40 g/kg soil 14 days before seed sowing. Trichoderma sp. was isolated through dilution plate techniques. The treated seed was kept overnight for air drying. Treatments were four: T₁=HYT D @ 3ml along with 5ml of water/kg seed, T₂= Provax 200 WP 2.5g / kg seed, T₃= Trichoderma sp. 5ml spore suspension (10⁸cells ml^-1)/kg seed and T₄ = Untreated control.

Achievement/Findings:

The lowest disease incidence (27.2%) and highest disease reduction (57%) were observed in T₂followed by T₃ disease incidence (40.4%) and disease reduction (36.1%). The highest yield was found 60.4 g/pot in T₂ and the lowest was 25.6 g/pot in T₄. The highest yield increase in T₂and followed by T₃ was observed at 135.9% and 86.3%, respectively. Provax was the best for seed treatment for controlling soil-borne pathogen S. rolfsii of wheat. HYT D showed lowest effect against S. rolfsii
