A field experiment was conducted in the Grey Terrace Soil (AEZ-28) of Gazipur on the effect of different sources of organic manure on cauliflower during the years of 2017-2018, 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 with the objectives to find out suitable organic manure for vegetable production and to find out the efficacy of different organic manures on producing vegetables. Cauliflower variety snow white was used as test crop. There were eight treatments viz. T1: Native nutrient, T2: Poultry manure @ 10 t ha-1, T3: Cowdung @ 20 t ha-1, T4: Farm yard manure @ 18 t ha-1, T5: Vermicompost @ 15 t ha-1, T6: Compost @ 15 t ha-1, T7: Tricho-compost @ 10 t ha-1, T8: Bioslurry @ 15 t ha-1. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. Data revealed that the T5 treatment produced the highest average yield (43.20 t ha-1) of cauliflower. Treatment T8 (Bioslurry) gave statistically identical yield of cauliflower to T5 (vermicompost) treatment. This trend of influence was consistent for almost all the yield contributing characters of cauliflower. The control treatment produced the lowest average yield (12.82 t ha-1). The average uptake of nutrients by cauliflower curd was the highest in the treatment T5 (vermicompost) which was followed by T8 (Bioslurry) treatment. The lowest nutrient uptake was noted from T1 (control) treatment. The highest gross margin (10,23,200 Tk.ha-1yr-1) and MBCR (6.63) was noted from T8 (Bioslurry) treatment. So, it may be recommanded that 15 t ha-1 bioslurry or 15 t ha-1 vermicompost with chemical fertilizers @ 50 kg N ha-1 and 20 kg K ha-1 can be used for cauliflower production in the Grey Terrace Soil of Gazipur (AEZ-28).

To find out suitable organic manure for organic vegetable production and ii. to find out the efficacy of different organic manure on producing organic vegetables.

A field experiment was conducted in the Grey Terrace Soil (AEZ-28) of Gazipur on effect of different types of organic manure on cauliflower during the years of 2017-2018, 2018-2019 and 2019-2020. The initial soil samples collected from the depth of 0-15 cm and analyzed in the laboratory following standard methods. Initial values of some important chemical parameters of the experimental soil are presented. From initial soil test results, the rate of different nutrients was calculated. Chemical analysis of poultry manure, cowdung, farm yard manure, vermicompost, compost, tricho-compost and bioslurry were mentioned.

The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. There were eight different treatments viz. T1: Native nutrient, T2: Poultry manure @ 10 t ha-1, T3: Cowdung @ 20 t ha-1, T4: Farm yard manure @ 18 t ha-1, T5: Vermicompost @ 15 t ha-1, T6: Compost @ 15 t ha-1, T7: Tricho-compost @ 10 t ha-1, T8: Bioslurry @ 15 t ha-1. The rate of different organic manures calculated to Phosphorus (P) equivalent for STB recommended doses. The unit plot size was 3m × 3m. The tested crop was cauliflower and the variety was Snow White. Thirty one days old seedlings of cauliflower were transplanted in line with 50 cm row to row and 50 cm plant to plant spacing on 28 November 2017, 26 November 2018 and 20 November 2019.

Nitrogen 50 kg ha-1 and potassium 20 kg ha-1 was supplied from urea and MoP as a basal dose. All organic fertilizers, MoP and 1/3 of N were applied at the time of final land preparation. The remaining two third of N were applied as top dress at 30 and 60 days after transplanting. Irrigation and other intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. The cauliflower was harvested on 27 February 2018, 13 February 2019 and 22 February 2020. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded and analyzed statistically using Statistics-10 software. LSD test was used to determine the significant differences between treatments. Plant samples were collected from each plot for laboratory analysis.

Considering results of the three years, the T5 (vermicompost) treatment produced the highest average yield of cauliflower. Treatment T8 (Bioslurry) gave statistically similar yield to T5 (vermicompost) treatment in all the three years. The uptake of nutrients by cauliflower curd was highest in the treatment T5 (vermicompost) which followed by T8 (Bioslurry) treatments. Although T5 (vermicompost) treatment gave the highest yield but the highest gross margin and highest MBCR was noted from T8 (Bioslurry) treatment due to higher price value of vemicompost. So, it may be recommande that 15 t ha-1 bioslurry or 15 t ha-1 vermicompost with chemical fertilizers @ 50 kg N ha-1 and 20 kg K ha-1 can be used for cauliflower production in the Grey Terrace Soil (AEZ-28) of Gazipur.
