The experiment was conducted at Central Research Farm, BARI, Gazipur (AEZ-28) during rabi seasons of 2017-2018, 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 with the objectives to find out the effect of bioslurry on the yield and yield components of onion and to find out nutrient uptake as influenced by different sources of bioslurry. There were eleven treatments viz. T1: Native fertility, T2: 75% Soil Test Based (STB) fertilizer, T3: 75% STB + 3 t ha-1 Poultry Manure (PM), T4: 75% STB + 3 t ha-1 PM slurry, T5: 75% STB + 5 t ha-1 Cowdung (CD), T6: 75% STB + 5 t ha-1 CD slurry, T7: 100% STB, T8: 100% STB + 3 t ha-1 PM, T9: 100% STB + 3 t ha-1 PM slurry, T10: 100% STB + 5 t ha-1 CD, T11: 100% STB + 5 t ha-1 CD slurry. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. The highest yield of onion (13.52 t ha-1 in 2018, 12.82 t ha-1 in 2019 and 14.19 t ha-1 in 2020) were obtained from T11 treatment (100% STB chemical fertilizers + 5 t CD slurry ha-1). The lowest yield of onion (7.53 t ha-1 in 2018, 5.51 t ha-1 in 2019 and 6.16 t ha-1 in 2020) was noted in native fertility treatment (T1). Total Soluble Solid (TSS) content (17.15%) of onion bulb was recorded higher in T11 treatment where applying 100% STB chemical fertilizers + 5 t ha-1 cowdung slurry. The uptake of nutrients by onion bulb was highest in the treatment T11 (100% STB + 5 t ha-1 cowdung slurry) followed by T9 treatment where applying 100% STB chemical fertilizers + 3 t ha-1 Poultry Manure slurry). The highest gross return (2,70,200 Tk ha-1yr-1), gross margin (1,19,583 Tk ha-1yr-1) and marginal value product (1,42,200 Tk ha-1yr-1) were obtained from T11 (100% STB + 5 t ha-1 CD slurry) treatment. Therefore, 100% STB chemical fertilizers (i.e. N104P13K27S29B1.63 kg ha-1) with 5 t cowdung slurry ha-1 can be recommended for onion (var. BARI Piaj 1) production in Grey Terrace Soil of Gazipur (AEZ-28).

i. to find out effect of bio-slurry on the yield and yield components of onion,

ii. to find out nutrient uptake as influenced by different sources of bioslurry, and

iii. to find out the effect of bio slurry on soil fertility.

The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. There were eleven treatments viz. T1: Native fertility, T2: 75% Soil Test Based (STB) fertilizer, T3: 75% STB + 3 t ha-1 Poultry Manure (PM), T4: 75% STB + 3 t ha-1 PM slurry, T5: 75% STB + 5 t ha-1 cowdung (CD), T6: 75% STB + 5 t ha-1 CD slurry, T7: 100% STB, T8: 100% STB + 3 t ha-1 PM, T9: 100% STB + 3 t ha-1 PM slurry, T10: 100% STB + 5 t ha-1 CD, T11: 100% STB + 5 t ha-1 CD slurry. The unit plot size was 1m x 2m. The tested crop was BARI Piaj-1. Thirty days aged seedlings of onion were transplanted in line with 15 cm row to row and 15 cm seedling to seedling spacing in 20 December 2017, 5 December 2018 and 7 December 2019. Seeds were treated with vitavex prior to seeding.

The field experiment was conducted in the Grey Terrace Soil (AEZ-28) at Gazipur during 2017-18 to 2019-2020. Initial soil samples collected from a depth of 0-15 cm were analyzed in the laboratory following standard methods. Initial values of some important chemical properties of soil of the experimental field are presented.

N-P-K-S-Zn-B were supplied from urea, TSP, MoP, gypsum, zinc sulphate and boric acid, respectively. All PKSZnB and 1/3 of N were applied at the time of final land preparation. The remaining two third of N were applied as top dress at 30 and 60 days after transplanting. Irrigation and other intercultural operations were done as and when required. Onion was harvested in 31 March, 2018, 30 March, 2019 and 13 March, 2020. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded and analyzed statistically using Statistics-10 software. LSD test was used to determine the significant differences between treatments (Steel and Torrie, 1960).

Onion bulb was collected from each plot for TSS (Total Soluble Solids) measurement. TSS was measured with a refractometer (Hanna instruments, USA). One drop of liquid was extracted from onion with a manual press and analyzed. The TSS content is expressed in % TSS or 0Brix.Plant samples and post harvest soil samples were collected from each plot for chemical analysis.

Considering results of the three years, the highest average yield of onion was obtained from T11 treatment (100% STB chemical fertilizers + 5 t ha-1 cowdung slurry). The uptake of nutrients by onion bulb was also highest in the treatment T11 (100% STB + cowdung slurry). The TSS content of onion bulb was recorded higher in T11 treatment. The highest gross return, gross margin and marginal value product were also observed from T11 (100% STB + 5 t ha-1 cowdung slurry) treatment but among the all integrated nutrient treatments, the highest MBCR was noted from T8 (100% STB + 5 t ha-1 Poultry Manure) treatment due to higher price of cowdung slurry and poultry manure slurry. If bioslurry production is possible to increase in farmers own area than production cost will be decreased. The farmers will preferably choose any of these treatments which can give a higher gross margin with relatively a lower variable cost and which can sustain soil fertility. Therefore, 100% STB chemical fertilizers (i.e. N104P13K27S29B1.63 kg ha-1) with 5 t cowdung slurry ha-1 can be recommended for onion (var. BARI Piaj 1) production in Grey Terrace soil of Gazipur (AEZ-28).
