Evaluation of Indian Dillenia Germplasm in Hilly Region (2018-2019)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Three Indian dillenia germplasm were evaluated at the Hill Tracts Agricultural Research Station, Ramgarh during the year 2018-19. The line DI Ram 003 produced maximum number of fruits (539/plant) while heavier fruit (744.3 g/fruit) was produced by the line DI Ram-005. Maximum fruit yield (396.3 kg /plant) was obtained from the line DI Ram-005 and the lowest yield (101.4kg/plant) was recorded in DI Ram-002.

Objectives:

To select a superior line having high yield potentiality of Dellenia germplasm.

Methodology:

The experiment was carried out at the Hill Agricultural Research Station, Ramgarh, Khagrachari hill district during 2018-2019. Three Indian dillenia germplasm were selected in different locations of Ramgarh. These were DI Ram-002, DI Ram-003 and DI Ram-005. Each of the plants was fertilized with CD 10kg, 460, 200 and 500 g NPK respectively in two installments. In addition each plant was fertilized with 250 g Gypsum, 10 g Boron and 10 g zinc. Intercultural operation such as weeding, mulching, irrigation and insecticides application were done as and when necessary. Fully mature fruits were harvested from the plant during November 2018. Data on plant height, base girth of the plant, number of main branches/plant, plant spread and number and weight of fruits were recorded from each plant. Single fruit weight, fruit size, and edible portion were recorded randomly selected 5 fruits from each plant.

Achievement/Findings:

There was a lot of variability in respect to plant height, number of branch, spread of plant, fruit size, single fruit weight and edible portion (%). The highest plant height (26.3 m) was recorded from DI Ram-005 but the maximum base girth (207 cm) was found from DI Ram-003 and maximum number of main branches (4/plant) also in DI Ram-003. The line DI Ram-005 has the highest canopy with E-W spread and N-S spread. The line DI Ram-003 produced the maximum number of fruits (539/plant) followed by DI Ram-005 (533/plant) and heavier fruit (744.3 g/fruit) produced by the line DI Ram-005. The maximum fruit yield 396.5 kg per plant was recorded from the line DI Ram-005 followed by DI Ram-003 (215.1 kg /plant). Edible portion (%) was almost similar in all germplasm. Considering yield and yield contributing characters the line DIRam-005 was found superior.
