Evaluation of Green Immature (kachamitha) Mango Germplasm at Hill Valley in Chittagong Hill Tracts (2019–2020)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted on the existing six years old mango orchard with MI Rai-005, MI Rai-006, MI Rai-007, MI Rai-008 germplasm and BARI Aam-9 (kachamitha mango as control treatment) at the hill valley of the Hill Agricultural Research Station of Raikhali, Kaptai in Rangamati Hill District during 2019-20 to find out the best kachamitha mango germplasm. The highest number of fruits per plant (99) was found in MI Rai-008 and the lowest number of fruits per plant (42) was in MI Rai-006. The heaviest individual fruit weight (253 g) and the highest edible portion (80.1%) were recorded in MI Rai-008 on the other hand the lowest fruit weight (111 g) was found in MI Rai-007. Maximum TSS (11%) was found in germplasm MI Rai-008. The germplasm MI Rai-008 was found very well in organoleptic test. No fruit was harvested from BARI Aam-9 during 2019-20 fruiting season.

Objectives:

To observe the performance of kachamitha mango germplasm in Chittagong Hill Tracts

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted with the existing six-year-old mango orchard containing MI Rai-005, MI Rai-006, MI Rai-007, MI Rai-008 genotypes and BARI Aam-9 (kachamitha mango as control treatment) at hill valley of Hill Agricultural Research Station of Raikhali in Rangamati Hill District during 2019-20. The experiment was conducted in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) maintaining 6 m × 6 m spacing. The soil was fertilized with well-decomposed cowdung @ 15 kg/plant, 230 g N, 42 g P₂O₅ and 54 g K₂O per plant per year. NPK were applied in the form of Urea, TSP and MOP, respectively. The fertilizers were applied in two equal installments in a year. First installment was applied during May and the second in September. Intercultural operations like weeding, irrigation, mulching etc. were done as per necessary. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were taken duly.

Based on the number of fruits per plant and fruit yield with higher individual fruit weight, fruit volume, edible portion and organoleptic test MI Rai-008 was superior among all other germplasm understudy in Chittagong Hill Tracts.
