Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Seventeen sabri banana germplasm were collected from Ishurdi region and was planted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, BARI, Ishurdi, Pabna to evaluate and identify the suitable lines during 2018-2019. Maximum number of leaves was obtained from MS Isd-008 and MS ISd-009 (15), whereas MS Isd-015 produced the minimum leaves (11). MS Isd-005 got the highest bunch weight (20.55 kg) and number of hands per bunch (10). Isd-010 produced the highest number of fingers per hand (26.10), whereas, MS Isd-014 produced the lowest number of hands/bunch (13.70). However, the highest fruit yield (51.38 t/ha) was obtained from MS Isd-002 followed by MS Isd-004 (45.50 t/ha) and the lowest yield (24.25 t/ha) was recorded from MS Isd-016. MS Isd-017 exhibited the highest edible portion (84.80%). TSS was maximum in MS Isd-012 (21.83%) followed by MS Isd-011 (21.80%).

Objectives:

To find out the suitable Sabri kola line with good quality and yield to release as variety.

Methodology:

The experiment was performed at the research field of the Regional Agriculture Research Station, BARI, Ishurdi, Pabna during the period from September 2017 to August 2018. More than six hundred local Sabri germplasm were included in the study. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. One sucker per plant of the first year crop was allowed to grow before maturity of the 1st crop. The plant debris of the main crop was properly cleaned and the unit bed was prepared by raising soil to the bed. Unit plot size was 4.0 x 4.0 m in accommodating 4.0 plants. Fertilizers were applied @ cowdung 10.00 kg, TSP 150.00 g, gypsum 100.00 g, MoP 100.00 g, Boron 10.00 g, ZnSO4 10.00 g and MgSO4 10.00 g per pit before planting the suckers. Urea and MoP were applied @ 875.00 and 850.00 g per plant in five equal installments starting from two months after retaining lst ratoon crop at 45 days’ interval. Weeding, de-suckering and pruning were done as and when necessary. Male buds were removed immediately after opening of flowers. Irrigation was done during November to May at one-month interval. A fungicide named Knowin was sprayed @ 2 g/L to control Sigatoka leaf spot disease of banana. Data in respect of vegetative, yield and fruit characters were recorded and analyzed by STAR computer program. Means were separated by DMRT.

Achievement/Findings:

Based on the results, it may be concluded that the accession MS Isd-002, MS Isd-004, MS Isd-006, MS Isd-013, MS Isd-017 and MS Isd-018 performed better in terms of yield and yield contributing characters. This is the first year of evaluation. Selected superior germplasm will be more precisely evaluated in the following year.
