Different physio-morphological, yield and yield contributing characters of local banana race were studied. Plant height varied from 4.53 m to 5.9 m. Base girth was varied from 73cm - 98 cm. The bunch without peduncle in this investigation was varied from 8.6 kg to 15.3 kg. Individual finger wt. was ranged from 81g - 154 g. The edible portion is one of the important factor for selecting a cultivar. In present investigation, it was varied from 82.6% to 84.52%. The total soluble solids (TSS) is the indicator of sweetness in desert banana. From this investigation we obtained around 24% TSS.  Color of local banana were bright yellow at ripening stage.

To studied on different physio-morphological, yield and yield contributing characters of local banana race.

There are many plants of local promising race at RARS, Hathazari. Data on different physio-morphological, yield and yield contributing parameters and other qualitative characters were recorded in 2018-2019. The results of physio-morphological characters and yield potentials presented. Plant height was varied from 4.53 m to 5.9 m. Faisal et al. (1998) observed higher plant height (1.62 m) in TC plants than CON plants (1.55 m) in case of champa variety, which were statistically not significant. No. of green leaves varied from 10-14.  Islam et al. (1995) observed 11.33 green leaves per plant at flowering stage in case of CON amritsagar variety. Base girth was varied from 73 cm - 98 cm. Faisal et al. (1998) measured 46.67 cm base girth in TC plants and 44 cm in CON plants of champa variety, respectively, which was not significant. But Islam et al. (1995) observed 68.67 cm base girth in amritsagar banana. The bunch without peduncle in this investigation was varied from 8.6 to 15.3 kg. The bunch without peduncle weighing 6.29 kg were recorded in TC plants while normal plants produced 5.25 kg. Islam et al. (1995) obtained almost same result (6.84 kg) from CON plants of amritsagar banana. No. of hands/bunch were ranged from 7-8. Number of hands/bunch were higher (5.41) in TC plants which was significantly different from CON plants (4.26). Ahmad et al. (1974) and Islam et al. (1995) observed 5.12 and 4.83 hands/bunch, respectively, in CON plants of amritsagar variety. Faisal et al. (1998) observed 8.89 hands/bunch in TC plants of champa variety. The CON plants of amritsagar banana produced more fingers (10.64) in a hand than TC plants (10.45) which was not statistically significant. Ahmad et al. (1974) observed 11.90 fingers/hand in CON plants of amritsagar banana at Ishurdi condition. Hoque and Nasiruddin (1990) obtained maximum fingers (17.88) in japkathali variety, but in this investigation it was varied from 12-16 (app.). Individual fruit wt was 81-154 gm. The wt. of individual fruit obtained from TC and CON plants were 118 gm and 114 gm, respectively. Islam et al. (1995) got fruit of 123.33 gm in CON amritsagar plants.

The edible portion is one of the important factor for selecting a cultivar. In present investigation it was varied from 82.6% to 84.52% (Table 3). TC plants produced fingers with higher edible portion (71.76%) which was significantly different from that of CON plants (68.35%). But Faisal et al. (1998) observed higher edible poprtion (76.69%) in CON plants of champa variety. The total soluble solids (TSS) is the indicator of sweetness in desert banana. Compared to banana in CON suckers with 19.0% TSS, in those produced by TC plantlets, TSS percentage was 21.6%. Faisal et al.(1998) observed 22.2% and 19.8% TSS in CON and TC plants of champa variety, respectively. Islam et al. (1995) obtained 23.9% TSS in CON amritsagar banana but in same experiment he obtained highest TSS (27%) from kabri variety. From this investigation we obtained around 24% TSS. Colour of fruit at ripening stage is the most important criterion for a good cultivar both for local consumption as well as for export market. Color of local banana were bright yellow at ripening stage. These plants produced sweet fruits and had excellent flavor and taste. No dropping tendency was found. Considering the qualitative characters of fruits, there were no remarkable differences.
