A field trial was conducted at RARS, Cumilla during summer season, 2018 with a view to study the performance of plantain germplasm. Five plantain germplasm MP Cum-001, MP Cum-002, MP Cum-003, MP Cum-004 and MP Cum-005 were evaluated in the study. MP Cum-003 gave the highest yield (42.25 t/ha) but highest edible portion (62.67%) was found in MP Cum-004.

To evaluate the performance of collected germplasm aimed to get a good variety.

 

Five plantain germplasm namely MP Cum-001, MP Cum-002, MP Cum-003, MP Cum-004 and MP Cum-005 were used for the study. This experiment was conducted at Regional Agriculture Research Station, Cumilla in the summer season, 2018. Suckers were collected from farmer’s field of Cumilla. Suckers were planted in 1 July, 2017 with spacing 2.0 m × 2.0 m. It was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. Pit size was 50 cm × 50 cm× 50 cm. The plants were fertilized with recommended doses of manures and fertilizers. Inter cultural operations will be done as and when necessary. Data were analyzed using Statistix10 software; the means were separated using by LSD test at 5% level of significance.

From the results of the study, it may be concluded that most of the plantain lines gave better yield but the lines MP Cum-003 gave the highest yield. So, further research will be needed in order to release a new variety.
