Evaluation of Plantain Germplasm (2018-2019)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Burirhat, Rangpur during 2018-19 with a view to find out a suitable plantain germplasm for releasing as a variety. Ten germplasm including BARI Kola-2 were included in the study. All germplasm gave fruit this year. BARI Kola-2 gave the highest yield (42.67 t/ha), which was followed (32.58 t/ha) by MP Bur-017, while the lowest yield (17.25t/ha) was in MPBur-019.

Objectives:

To develop high yield with good quality plantain Banana variety.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Regional Agriculrural Research Station, Burirhat, Rangpur during 2018-19 with a view to find out a suitable plantain germplasm. Ten germplasm including BARI Kola-2 were used as check in the study. The experiment was laid out in randomize complete block design with three replications. Manures and fertilizers were applied as the instruction of Krishi Projukti Hatboi (5^th edition, 2011). The sucker of the plantain was planted in July 19, 2018 having a plant spacing of 2m x 2m. Intercultural operations were done as and when required. Data on different parameters were recorded and statistically analyzed for interpretation of the results.

Achievement/Findings:

Considering the yield, BARI Kola-2 produced the higher yield (42.67t/ha), which was followed (32.58t/ha) by MP Bur-017, while the lowest yield (17.25t/ha) was in MP Bur-019. Among the germplasm MP Bur-017 was found promising. The experiment should be continued for further verification of the results.
